SR-142 (UT)
State Route 142 (SR-142) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. At long, it connects the towns of Newton, Clarkston, Trenton, and Richmond to US-91 and SR-23 in northern Cache County. Route description The route starts at its intersection with SR-23 in Newton and travels about northwest to Clarkston. Here the route turns east and travels just over through Trenton and ends in Richmond at the intersection with US-91. History The state legislature created State Route 142 in 1933, connecting SR-69 (now SR-30) at Petersboro with Newton and Smithfield. SR-142 was moved to the present route of Newton to Clarkston at SR-170 in 1941, with the old alignment through downtown Newton to Smithfield becoming SR-218. In 1969, SR-170, which ran from Clarkston via Trenton to Richmond was absorbed into SR-142, and SR-170 was deleted. This completed the current route of SR-142 as it runs today. State Route 38 is a state highway in Box Elder County in the U.S. state of Utah. It runs north from Brigham City to Collinston (northeast of Tremonton). The highway was originally State Route 69, but was renumbered in 1993 due to sign theft caused by the sexual connotation of the number. Route description Starting in the north end of Brigham City at the east edge of the Bear River Valley, the route travels north through Harper Ward for approximately one mile until it reaches the west edge of the Wellsville Mountains. The route then continues through Harper Ward, turning north-northwest to follow along the edge of the mountain range. Upon reaching the city of Honeyville, it resumes a more northerly direction through Crystal Springs, Madsen, and Deweyville, before ending in Collinston. State Route 218 (SR-218) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. Spanning , it serves as an east/west rural connector, connecting the town of Newton on SR-23 with the city of Smithfield on US-91 in Cache County. Route description State Route 218 begins just east of the town of Newton in Cache County. Other than the ends of the route entering towns, the entire route passes through farmland. Beginning as an extension of Main Street ( SR-23), it travels southeast about before turning due east, crossing a northern arm of Cutler Reservoir and passing the town of Amalga. Just after passing Amalga, the route takes a short jog to the southeast and crosses a bridge over the Bear River. Utah State Route 170 (pre-1969)
A number of minor routes in the U.S. state of Utah were deleted by the State Legislature in 1969. State Route 19 The State Road Commission designated a state highway connecting Cedar City with Lund on August 2, 1912. The purpose was to connect Cedar City with the nearest railroad station, that of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad (Union Pacific Railroad) at Lund. A connecting road—now known as Gap Road—running west from the county seat at Parowan through Hieroglyphic Canyon (now Parowan Gap) to the Cedar City–Lund road was added to the state highway system on December 21, 1915. In 1919, the state legislature redefined the state highway system to include only a short list of roads and any federal aid projects. The road to Cedar City was kept since it was improved with federal aid, and the road to Parowan was dropped, but restored in 1921. Clarkston, UT
Clarkston is a town in Cache County, Utah, United States. The population was 666 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Logan, Utah-Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community celebration is held in June each year and is known as The Pony Express Days. Clarkston is noted for being the last home of Martin Harris, one of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon. He is buried in Clarkston, and every other year a pageant commemorates his life. The pageant was discontinued in 2018. Many of it residents enjoy the local wildlife which includes mule deer, sharp-tailed grouse, and pheasant. State Route 30 (SR-30) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. It is the only highway signed as a Utah state route (with the beehive shaped route marker) to traverse the entire width of the state. Legislatively the highway exists as 3 separate segments. With implied connections via Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 89, the highway is drivable as a continuous route from Nevada to Wyoming. The western segment is a historic corridor paralleling the pre-Lucin Cutoff routing of the First transcontinental railroad. A portion of the eastern segment has been designated the Bear Lake Scenic Byway as part of the Utah Scenic Byways program. Cache County ( ) is a county located in the Wasatch Front region of Utah. As of the 2020 United States Census the population was 133,154. Its county seat and largest city is Logan. Cache County is included in Logan metropolitan area. History Indigenous peoples occupied the valleys of present Cache County as much as 10,000 BCE. Near the present epoch, the valley served the Plains Indians and the Shoshone. Trappers and explorers visited the area in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. State Route 23 (SR-23) is a state highway in northern Utah, running for in Cache County from Wellsville to the Idaho state line on the north end of Cornish. Route description SR-23 begins in Wellsville at an intersection with US-89/ US-91 in southern Wellsville and heads north through the town. It turns northwest parallel to the Wellsville Mountains to Mendon. It turns north through Mendon and Petersboro. It turns northwest between Cache Butte and the Cutler Reservoir into Cache Junction.
