SOCAN ECHO Prize
The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada, SOCAN Songwriting Prize, formerly known as the ECHO Songwriting Prize, is an annual competition recognizing the best in Canadian emerging music, both anglophone and francophone. Established in 2006, the competition was designed to recognize some of the most innovative, creative and artistic songs created in the year preceding the award by emerging songwriters in Canada. Songs are selected by a competition panel composed of 10 music experts from the Canadian music scene, who each nominate two songs based on a set of criteria they believe are the best songs by emerging artists from the past year. The songs are narrowed down to a set of 10 finalists and announced publicly. Fans then vote for the winner over the course of two weeks in June. Once the winners (one anglophone and one francophone) are determined after the voting period, they each are awarded a $10,000 cash prize from SOCAN and an assortment of prizes from the ...

The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) is a Canadian performance rights organization that represents the performing rights of more than 135,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers. The organization collects license fees through a music licensing program approved by the Copyright Board of Canada. History SOCAN is a result of a merger that took place in 1990 between the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada (CAPAC) and the Performing Rights Organization of Canada (PROCAN). In 2013, Front Row Insurance Brokers Inc. initiated an online musical instrument insurance program for members of various Canadian music associations, including SOCAN. Greg Smith (Canadian Musician)
Greg Smith is a Canadian musician and painter based in Toronto, Ontario. He is best known as the bassist of indie rock band The Weakerthans, which he joined in August 2004, replacing founding bassist John P. Sutton. As a member of The Weakerthans, he contributed to their latest studio album, '' Reunion Tour'', and is featured on their live release '' Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre'', to which he also contributed the album cover. Since 2018, Greg has been the bassist for the indie rock band The Lowest of the Low. Numéro# is a French Canadian electropop duo consisting of Jérôme Rocipon and Pierre Crube. Biography Jérôme Rocipon is a native of Bordeaux, France and played as a guitarist in various rock groups in the country with additional interests in hip hop. He started to correspond with Pierre Crube, a composer of experimental electronic music from Montreal in the primarily Francophone province of Quebec in Canada. Dumas (born Steve Dumas) is a Canadian musician a from Victoriaville, Quebec. Career Dumas released his first album ''Dumas'' in 2001, when he was 21. Xavier Caféïne
Xavier Caféine is a French Canadian rock vocalist, multi instrumentalist, composer and producer from the province of Quebec. He is the primary songwriter and lead singer of his band Cafeine and has also released music under alternate spellings; Caféine, Xavier Caféïne, or Caféïne.
