SNLE 3G-class
The SNLE 3G (''Sous-Marin Nucléaire Lanceur d'Engins de Troisieme Génération'' "third generation nuclear ballistic missile submarine") is a class of submarines under development for the French Navy's nuclear deterrent, part of the Force de dissuasion. It is being designed as a replacement for the current ''Triomphant'' class beginning around 2035, and could remain in service to as late as 2090. Planning The current French ballistic missile submarines, the ''Triomphant'' class came into service from 1997 and are due to be withdrawn around 2035. Initial studies for a replacement class began in 2017. The start of the general detailed design phase for the vessels was announced on 18 February 2021 by Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly. Naval Group is a major French industrial group specialized in naval defense design, development and construction. Its headquarters are located in Paris. Florence Parly
Florence Parly (born 8 May 1963) is a French politician who served as Minister of the Armed Forces under President Emmanuel Macron from 2017 to 2022. A former member of the Socialist Party (PS), she previously served as Secretary of State for the Budget from 2000 to 2002 under President Jacques Chirac. Career An alumna of the École nationale d'administration, Parly was appointed Secretary of State for the Budget on 3 January 2000 in the government of Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. In office until 6 May 2002, she seconded Christian Sautter, then Laurent Fabius at the Ministry of Finance. Future Of The French Navy
French Navy modernization is pursued on the basis of successive ''Projet de loi de programmation militaire'' ("Military programme law projects - LPM). ÃŽle Longue
Île Longue (French for "Long Island") is a peninsula of the roadstead of Brest in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region. It is the base of the SNLE, the French ballistic missile submarines, and as such one of the most secretive and heavily defended places in France. Geography Île Longue is a peninsula on the commune of Crozon, attached to the Crozon peninsula. its altitude is 42 metres and has an area of 1.10 km2. To the north of the peninsula there are two small islands: Ile des Morts and Ile Trébéron. Originally the isthmus was a mere sand bank, and crossing was only possible at low tide. During the 19th century, it was improved with a stone pathway. During the construction of the strategic base (1967–1972), it was widened, made insubmersible, and changed into a big parking space. Triomphant-class Submarine
The ''Triomphant'' class of ballistic missile submarines of the French Navy is the active lead boat class of four boats that entered service in 1997, 1999, 2004, and 2010. These four superseded the older , and they provide the ocean-based component (the ''Force océanique stratégique'') of France's nuclear deterrent strike force, the ''Force de dissuasion'' (deterrence force). Their home port is Île Longue, Roadstead of Brest, Western Brittany.
