SMarteenies
''SMarteenies'' is a spin off of the children's art programme '' SMart'' designed for pre school viewers. It was broadcast on the CBeebies channel daily from the channel's launch in February 2002. The series remained repeated until its suspension in January 2008, following the death of presenter Mark Speight's fiancée Natasha Collins, and his subsequent suicide. The programme started with the four presenters determining who was to do the first piece (with the rhyme: " Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, Smarteenies guess who'll have a go"). Following each piece, the programme returned to this screen to select the next presenter. Presenters The presenters were the same as those who presented the original '' SMart''. Kirsten O'Brien
Kirsten Lindsey O'Brien (born 23 February 1972) is an English television presenter and actress. She is perhaps best known for her work presenting for the BBC, including the popular CBBC art programme ''SMart'' from 1999 to 2009, and CBeebies pre-school art spin-off programme ''SMarteenies'' in 2002. Career O'Brien studied media and communications at the University of Central England in Birmingham, graduating in 1993. She got her first broadcast experience on the university's student radio station which led to her first job in 1995 at Tyne Tees Television where she made her presenting debut on a children's science programme. In 1996 she joined the team presenting the continuity links during the BBC's children's programming CBBC. She stayed there for three-and-a-half years during which time she became best known for her partnership with puppet Otis the Aardvark. Mark Speight
Mark Warwick Fordham Speight (6 August 1965 – 7 April 2008) was an English television presenter and host of children's art programme ''SMart''. Speight was born in Seisdon, Staffordshire, and left school at 16 to become a cartoonist. He took a degree in Commercial art, commercial and graphic design, graphic art and, while working in television set construction, heard of auditions for a new children's art programme. Speight was successful in his audition and became one of the first presenters of ''SMart'', working on it for 14 years. Speight was also a presenter on ''See It Saw It'', where he met his future fiancée, actress and model Natasha Collins. He took part in live events, such as ''Rolf on Art'' and his own ''Speight of the Art'' workshops for children. Jay Burridge
Jay Jay Burridge also known as Jay Burridge (born 12 January 1971) is an artist and former television presenter. He fronted the BBC children's art programme ''SMart'' from 1994 until 2003, when he left and became a graphic designer and snowboard inventor. He was a close friend of colleague Mark Speight. Career TV presenter and early career He graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a degree in art, and in 1994 auditioned for the role as a presenter on the BBC children's art programme ''SMart''. At his interview he met Mark Speight, and the two soon formed a strong friendship. Burridge and Speight were given the jobs of presenting ''SMart'' alongside Zoe Ball. Marcus Clarke (puppeteer)
Marcus Clarke is a British puppeteer and voice actor from Nottinghamshire. He is best known as the puppeteer and voice actor behind the BAFTA-winning CITV series Bookaboo and the principal puppeteer of Audrey II in the 1986 version of Little Shop of Horrors. Clarke has worked as a puppeteer in over 60 television series and has created a similar number of puppets. He was also a puppeteer and voice actor in two Muppet feature films and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. History Marcus Clarke was born in Forest Gate, East London. CBeebies is a British free-to-air public broadcast children's television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is also the brand used for all BBC content for children aged 6 years and under.
