SMS Radetzky (1854)
SMS ''Radetzky'' was a screw frigate in the Austro-Hungarian Navy, built in England in 1856 and lost through explosion of the powder magazine in 1869. Construction ''Radetzky'' was built by Money Wigram & Sons of London, in their shipyard at Northam, Southampton. The ship, named after nobleman and field marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, was launched on 13 April 1854. After initial fitting-out in Southampton, the frigate sailed for the Mediterranean, returning to England on 9 August. A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The term was applied loosely to ships varying greatly in design. In the second quarter of the 18th century, the 'true frigate' was developed in France. This type of vessel was characterised by possessing only one armed deck, with an unarmed deck below it used for berthing the crew. Sveti Klement ( Croatian for '' Saint Clement'') is an island in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea. Its area is 5.28 km2 and it is the largest of the Paklinski islands, a group of small islands located in central Dalmatia just south of Hvar. Its coastline is 29.89 km long. The coastal part of the island is barren and rocky while parts of the interior are covered in maquis shrubs. There are three non-permanent settlements on the island called Palmižana, Momića Polje and Vlaka. There is also a marina operated by ACI Club in Palmižana, open from March to October. Vis (; ; la, Issa, it, Lissa) is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. It is the farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland. The Battle of Lissa (or Battle of Vis) ( hr, Bitka kod Visa) took place on 20 July 1866 in the Adriatic Sea near the Dalmatian island of Vis () and was a significant victory for an Austrian Empire force over a numerically superior Italian force. It was the first major sea battle between ironclads and one of the last to involve deliberate ramming. The Italian navy fired roughly 1450 shots during the engagement, but failed to sink any Austrian ship while losing two ironclads. The Battle of Heligoland (or Helgoland) was fought on 9 May 1864, during the Second Schleswig War, between a Danish squadron led by Commodore Edouard Suenson and a joint Austro-Prussian squadron commanded by the Austrian Commodore Wilhelm von Tegetthoff. The action came about as a result of the Danish blockade of German ports in the North Sea; the Austrians had sent two steam frigates, and , to reinforce the small Prussian Navy to help break the blockade. Magazine is the name for an item or place within which ammunition or other explosive material is stored. It is taken originally from the Arabic word "makhāzin" (مخازن), meaning 'storehouses', via Italian and Middle French. The term is also used for a place where large quantities of ammunition are stored for later distribution, or an ammunition dump. This usage is less common.
