Southeastern Conference
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the South Central and Southeastern United States. Its fourteen members include the flagship public universities of ten states, three additional public land-grant universities, and one private research university. The conference is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The SEC participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I in sports competitions; for football it is part of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A. Members of the SEC have won many national championships: 43 in football, 21 in basketball, 41 in indoor track, 42 in outdoor track, 24 in swimming, 20 in gymnastics, 13 in baseball (College World Series), and one in volleyball. Southeastern Conference Baseball Player Of The Year
The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year is a baseball award given to the Southeastern Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1993 season, with both pitchers and position players eligible. After the 2003 season, the Southeastern Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Year award was created to honor the most outstanding pitcher. It is selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. The award has been shared twice, once by Stephen Head of Ole Miss and Jon Zeringue of LSU in 2004, and once by Dylan Crews of LSU and Sonny DiChiara of Auburn. Only one player has won the award twice—Matt LaPorta of Florida in 2005 and 2007. LSU has the most all-time winners, with six. One SEC member has yet to have a winner: 2012 arrival Missouri. The award was first given following the 1997 season, with both pitchers and position players eligible. After the 2002 season, the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year award was created to honor the most outstanding pitcher. Only two players in history have won the award twice: Iyhia McMichael of Mississippi State (2003, 2004), and Charlotte Morgan of Alabama (2009, 2010). The Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is an award given to the player who has proven himself, throughout the season, to be the most exceptional talent in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The school with the most SEC Player of the Year award winners is Kentucky, with 18 total awards. The only current SEC members that have never had a winner are Missouri and Texas A&M, the conference's two newest members (both joining in 2012). Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Player Of The Year
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year is an award given to the most outstanding player in the Southeastern Conference. Although the SEC began its women's postseason tournament in 1980, and began official regular-season conference play in the 1982–83 season, a Player of the Year award was not created until the 1986–87 season. Currently, two bodies vote for Players of the Year. The league's coaches have selected a Player of the Year since the 1986–87 season, and the Associated Press began presenting its version of the award in the 1996–97 season. The two voting bodies have split their honors three times, most recently in 2012–13 when the AP honored A'dia Mathies of Kentucky and the coaches honored Meighan Simmons of Tennessee.
