SD Željezničar
SD Željezničar is the second largest association of sport clubs with the same name in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The largest one is USD Bosna. It was founded in 1921 by a group of railway workers as RŠD (Radničko športsko društvo, eng. Workers' sports society) Željezničar, but after the World War II initial acronym was changed to SD. Football When it was founded in 1921 its first member was football club FK Željezničar. FK Željezničar is also the most prominent and most popular member of this association. They have managed to win one championship title in former Yugoslavia in 1972, and six more titles in the independent Bosnia and Herzegovina (1998, 2001, 2002, 2010, 2012, 2013). Six more Bosnian cup titles were added. The club's biggest international result was recorded in 1985 when they have reached the UEFA Cup semi-final. EHF Cup
The EHF European League is an annual men's handball club competition organised by the European Handball Federation (EHF) since 1981. It is the second-tier competition of European club handball, ranking only below the EHF Champions League. Previously called the EHF Cup, the competition will be known as the EHF European League from the season 2020–21. Portuguese side S.L. Benfica (handball), Benfica are the current holders. WABA League, commonly known as the Adriatic League, is a top-level regional basketball league, featuring female teams from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Croatia. Clubs from Austria, Turkey, Hungary and Italy had their representatives in WABA League in past seasons. Since 2012 a Cadet WABA League and since 2014 Pionir WABA League is also played. History Formation and early years WABA League was established in 2001 as EWWL League. In its first season it included six teams from four countries (Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina). After the regular season, it held a tournament in which the three best teams played, which was won by Athlete Celje. Adriatic League
The ABA League, renamed to the ABA League First Division in 2017, is the 1st-tier regional men's professional basketball league that originally featured clubs from the former Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia). Due to sponsorship reasons, the league was also known as the Goodyear League from 2001 to 2006, the NLB League from 2006 to 2011, and as the AdmiralBet ABA League from 2021. The league coexists alongside scaled-down national leagues in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. Bosnian Basketball Championship
The Basketball Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the top–tier men's professional basketball league in Bosnia and Herzegovina for men and women, respectively. The league is operated by the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Competition format The league is composed of 12 teams, each playing against the other eleven two times, home and away. After this portion concludes, the top six clubs are joined by the country's representatives in the Adriatic League, and enter "League 6". The best of these four teams go to the playoffs, and in the final best-of-five series, the Bosnian champion is crowned. The eight teams who do not make the playoffs go on to compete in the "relegation league," where a team's object becomes maintaining its standing and ability to play in the competition the following year. The Yugoslav Basketball Cup ( sh, Kup Jugoslavije u košarci / ) was the men's national basketball cup of Yugoslavia between its inauguration 1959 and 2002. It was held in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia between 1959 and 1991 and in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia between 1992 and 2002. In 2002, FR Yugoslavia changed its name to Serbia and Montenegro while the cup got renamed to the Radivoj Korać Cup. YUBA Liga
The YUBA League was the top-tier men's professional basketball league in Serbia and Montenegro (previously FR Yugoslavia). Founded in 1992 and folded in 2006, it was run by the Basketball Federation of Serbia and Montenegro. The name ''YUBA League'' (Yugoslav Basketball Association League) was used in Serbia and Montenegro until 2005. It consisted of the first-stage "First League", and the second-stage "Super League", with each having their own men's and women's divisions. KK Željezničar Sarajevo (Košarkaški klub Željezničar Sarajevo in English: Željezničar Sarajevo Basketball Club), also known as Željezničar Sarajevo is the basketball section of the multi-sport society SD Željezničar, based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. History Basketball is the second most popular sport in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The men's KK Željezničar team was one of the Yugoslavian clubs from the Bosnian region in the 1960s and 1970s, but when the Yugoslav Wars led to the breakup of the Yugoslav federation in 1992, the men's team ceased to exist. In the overall Yugoslav championship table 1946–1991, the men's KK Željezničar Sarajevo occupies 24th place. They spent six seasons in the top flight. European Handball Federation
The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. History EHF was founded on 17 November 1991 in Berlin, Germany, although the first EHF Congress convened on 5 June 1992 and assigned EHF's headquarters to Vienna, Austria from 1 September that year.
