SC Bietigheim-Bissingen, also known as the Bietigheim Steelers, is a professional ice hockey team based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany. They currently play in DEL, the highest-level league in Germany. Prior to the 2021—22 season they played in the DEL2, Germany's second-tiered ice hockey league. Bietigheim-Bissingen
Bietigheim-Bissingen (locally: ''Biedge-Bissenge'') is the second-largest town in the district of Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany with 42,515 inhabitants in 2007. It is situated on the river Enz and the river Metter, close to its confluence with the Neckar, about 19 km north of Stuttgart, and 20 km south of Heilbronn. History Towards the end of the 18th century Bietigheim saw during the beginning of the industrialisation an improvement of the living conditions and an increase in population. The 1806 furnished Oberamt Bietigheim was in 1810, however, dissolved again: the city and its official municipalities were integrated in the Oberamt Besigheim. The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. Constantin Braun (born March 11, 1988) is a German professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing for and captain of the Bietigheim Steelers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Playing career Braun was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round, 164th overall, and began playing professionally with Berlin in the 2005–06 season. DEL2 (also known as DEL II) is the second tier ice hockey league in Germany, below the '' Deutsche Eishockey Liga'' (DEL) and ahead of the '' Oberliga''. Founded in 2013 to replace the defunct '' 2nd Bundesliga'', DEL2 is administered by ESBG, under licence from DEB. History The DEL2 league was founded on 2 May 2013 by Eishockeyliga Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. The foundation of the league was controversial as it was preceded by a long standing dispute between the operator of the second division, Eishockeyspielbetriebsgesellschaft mbH (ESBG), and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). In 2011, ESBG refused to sign a cooperation agreement between DEB and DEL citing unacceptable conditions. As a result, DEB withdrew their support of ESBG and promotion and relegation between the DEL and 2nd division was removed. Tom Pokel
Tom Pokel (born September 2, 1967) is an American professional ice hockey coach and a former ice hockey defenseman. He is currently the head coach for the Straubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Playing career Pokel attended the State University of New York at Fredonia and was a three-time captain for the men's ice hockey team. He graduated in 1991. Coaching career Pokel worked on the Buffalo Sabres' marketing department for six years following his playing career, and in 1995 accepted the head coach position at German second-division side EHC Timmendorfer Strand. After two years in that job, he took over ESC Trier and one year later was named head coach of the Bietigheim Steelers who he guided to promotion from third to second division in 1999. Daniel "Danny" Naud (born February 20, 1962) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and a former professional player. He is currently serving as head coach of Bietigheim Steelers in Germany. Playing career Born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Naud played professionally in the AHL and the IHL, before taking his game to Europe in 1986. A defenseman, his overseas career included stints in Germany (EV Landshut, Augsburger EV/Augsburger Panther, TuS Geretsried), Switzerland ( SC Langnau) and France (Dragons de Rouen) and lasted from 1986 to 1999. Kevin Gaudet
Kevin Gaudet (born October 22, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, now working as a coach. He is currently serving as head coach of the Hannover Scorpions. Playing career Gaudet attended the Université de Moncton and helped "Les Aigles Bleus" win back-to-back Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union Men's Ice Hockey championships in 1981 and 1982. The championship-winning teams were inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. He spent some time with the Moncton Hawks of the American Hockey League and was trying out with NHL sides Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota North Stars, before making the move to France, where he played for HC Val Vanoise between 1985 and 1991.
