The Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) provides a number of services for elementary through college level instrumental music groups in Southern California, including providing clinics for educators and students and hosting festivals for soloists and ensembles, including marching band competitions. Honor ensembles The SCSBOA honor groups for elementary through high school students are prestigious music groups which students audition for. They include the band, string orchestra, full orchestra, and jazz band. Students accepted into the groups often demonstrate their expertise in their instruments as well as their motivation to take music to a higher degree. Numerous new musical works have been commissioned for these honor groups over the years to include Double Helix (music composition), Double Helix which was published by CPP Belwin. Colony High School is a high school located in Ontario, California and is part of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. Double Helix (music Composition)
"Double Helix" is an original music composition written by Jack Cooper for 17-piece jazz orchestras in 1991. The recording of "Double Helix" also goes by the title "Twice is Nice" (as a sound file) when distributed worldwide as production music. The work has been used and heard around the world for music, media, and entertainment broadcasts. Background ''Double Helix'' was first written in 1991 as a commission for the SCSBOA Honor Jazz Ensemble and premiered at Disneyland that year. Late in 1991 Jack Bullock (jazz editor for Columbia Pictures Publications/ Belwin hired Jack Cooper as a staff writer for new jazz ensemble works. Jack Bullock heard his writing done for the U.S. Army ''Jazz Knights''. The first piece Bullock decided to publish (and record) was ''Double Helix''. West Ranch High School is a public high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District located in Stevenson Ranch, California.
