The 75 SA 49 (french: 75 mm Semi-Automatique Modèle 1949; en, 75 mm Semi-Automatic 1949 Model) is a French 75 mm low-recoil rifled gun specially designed to be mounted on the EBR eight-wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicle. History The SA 49 was made with the idea of re-using the stockpiled 75x350mm R ammunition previously used by the French 75 mm Mle 97 gun and the US 75 mm M3 and M6 guns (already used by the French Army) while featuring the same external ballistics as the latter. An oscillating turret is a form of turret for armoured fighting vehicles, both tanks and armoured cars. The turret is unusual in being made of two hinged parts. Elevation of the gun relies on the upper part of the turret moving relative to the lower part. Oscillating turrets have rarely been used. Their only widespread use was on two French designs: the AMX-13 light tank and the Panhard EBR armoured car; the Austrian SK-105 Kürassier uses a turret developed from the AMX-13. The 76.2 mm D-56T series rifled tank gun is the tank gun used on the PT-76, which is the only known armoured vehicle to carry it. Description The D-56T is an anti-tank gun of 76.2mm calibre. It can fire five types of rounds, using a manual loader system, it has an effective fire rate of six to eight rounds per minute. It has a max effective range of approximately 1500 meters. A hydraulic recoil mechanism is a way of limiting the effects of recoil and adding to the accuracy and firepower of an artillery piece. High-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) is the effect of a shaped charge explosive that uses the Munroe effect to penetrate heavy armor.
