S11 (classification)
S11, SB11, SM11 are disability swimming classifications for blind swimmers. Sport This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. Jane Buckley, writing for the Sporting Wheelies, describes the swimmers in this classification as having: "unable to see at all and are considered totally blind (see IBSA B1 – appendix). Swimmers must wear blackened goggles if they swim in this class. They will also require someone to tap them when they are approaching a wall." Cecilia Camellini (born 10 March 1992 in Modena) is a visually-impaired, born blind, Paralympic swimmer of Italy. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics she won two silver medals. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics she won two gold in world record time, and two bronze medals. Camellini is an athlete of the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro. Para-swimming Classification
Para-swimming classification is a function-based classification system designed to allow for fair competition in disability swimming. The classes are prefixed with "S" for freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events, "SB" for breaststroke and "SM" for individual medley events. Swimmers with physical disabilities are divided into ten classes based on their degree of functional disability: S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9 and S10. The lower number indicates a greater degree of impairment. Those with visual impairments are placed in three additional classes: S11, S12 and S13. Swimming At The 2008 Summer Paralympics
The swimming events of the 2008 Summer Paralympics were held in the Beijing National Aquatics Center between September 7 and September 15, 2008. A total of 140 gold medals were expected to be distributed. Paralympic records were broken in 122 events, of which the records in 108 events were also world records. Junichi Kawai
is a Japanese Paralympic swimmer competing mainly in category S11 events. Career Junichi has competed in five summer paralympics winning a total of 21 medals, five gold nine silver and seven bronze. His first games came in 1992 when he competed in the 400m freestyle and won bronze in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 200m Medley and silver in both the 50m and 100m freestyle. In 1996 in Atlanta he competed in the 100m breaststroke and butterfly and won bronze in the 200m Medley, silver in the 100m backstroke and gold in both the 50m and 100m freestyle. Anastasia Pagonis ( el, Αναστασία Παγώνης; born May 2, 2004) is an American Paralympic swimmer. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. She is a world record and American record holder within the sport. Career Pagonis made her international debut at the 2020 WPS World Series event in Melbourne, Australia in February 2020, where she won gold in the 400 m freestyle and won bronze medal in the 200 m medley. She also finished in eighth in the 50 m freestyle and fourth in the 100 m freestyle. John Morgan (swimmer)
John Morgan is an American swimmer who won 13 gold medals across two Paralympic Games. He made his debut at the 1984 Summer Paralympics where he won five golds, then returned at the 1992 Games in Barcelona where he medalled in all ten events in which he competed. Morgan's success at these Games included setting six world records; throughout his career he set a total of 14 world records. He was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame in 2008 and the United States Association of Blind Athletes' Hall of Fame in 2011.
