Sídney José Tobias (born 20 August 1963), also known as Sídney or Sídney Tobias, is a Brazilian former professional footballer and manager who played as a forward. Career Sídney was part of the generation that became known at São Paulo FC as "Menudos do Morumbi", and won multiple titles for the club. After leaving São Paulo, he was also champion at Atlético Goianiense. International career Sídney was part of the squad who won the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship. For the Brazil A, made two appearances, in friendly matches against the East Germany and Hungary, in March 1986. Managerial career In 2020, he was the coach of Guajará in the Campeonato Rondoniense. Personal life His brother, Toninho Tobias, was also a professional footballer and won the 1993 edition of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, with São Paulo FC. Antônio Marcos Tobias (born 10 June 1973), better known as Toninho, is a Brazilian former professional footballer, who played as a forward. Career Toninho was part of the squad known as "Expressinho", which included names like Rogério Ceni, Mona and Paulo Jamelli. He was loaned to Anderlecht and Audax Italiano before being traded to Salgueiros of Portugal. Afterwards he played in Asia and in football in the state of Alagoas. In 2013 he returned to football at CA Taboão da Serra. Personal life Toninho is the younger brother of retired footballer Sídney. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, commonly known as the Série C or the Brazilian Série C to distinguish it from the Italian Serie C, is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Beginning in 2009, the Série C was reduced from 64 teams to 20 and the new Campeonato Brasileiro Série D is the qualifier for Brazilian league football. Overview and format The 1986 tournament ranks as one of the most controversial ever, alongside 1987. For its detractors, it apparently revived old devils from late 1970s by featuring back a single division with 80 teams, allegedly for political reasons as CBF sought support from smaller teams against growing criticism of the top traditional clubs. These in turn saw this as weaker revenue possibilities, exemplified by 1985 final play-offs, combined with real increased competitiveness from these smaller provincial clubs, now also at national league level.
