Séamus Murphy (Carlow Hurler)
Séamus Murphy (born 1986) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right corner-forward for the Carlow senior team. Born in Bahana, County Carlow, Murphy first arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Carlow minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He later joined the senior team and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. At club level he is a two-time championship medallist with St Mullin's. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. The Carlow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Ceatharlach) or Carlow GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Carlow and the Carlow county teams. The Carlow county football team play in the Leinster Senior Football Championship and in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League for 2019. County Carlow ( ; ga, Contae Cheatharlach) is a county located in the South-East Region of Ireland, within the province of Leinster. Carlow is the second smallest and the third least populous of Ireland's 32 traditional counties. Carlow County Council is the governing local authority. The Carlow Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Carlow GAA clubs. Mount Leinster Rangers are the title holders (2020) defeating Ballinkillen in the Final. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The competition is named in honour of Christy Ring, a legendary player from Cork. The Christy Ring Cup, which was introduced in 2005, replaced the All-Ireland B Hurling Championship (1974-2004). The 2008 Christy Ring Cup was the 4th annual second tier hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Carlow beat Westmeath in the final after extra time. Edward Coady
Edward "Eddie" Coady (born 1978) is an Irish hurler who plays as a left corner-forward for the Carlow senior team. Coady made his first appearance for the team during the 1999 National League and has become a regular member of the starting fifteen since then. During that time he has won two Christy Ring Cup medals, one National League (Division 2A) medal and three Kehoe Cup medals. At club level Coady is an All-Ireland and Leinster medalist at intermediate level with Mount Leinster Rangers. He has also won four county senior championship medals. Alan Corcoran (born 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right corner-back for the Carlow senior team. Born in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Corcoran first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Presentation De La Salle. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Carlow minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2011 league. Corcoran has since become a regular member of the starting fifteen. At club level Corcoran plays with Erin's Own.
