São Pedro ( Portuguese for Saint Peter) is one of the five urban civil parishes of the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo on the island of Terceira in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. History The first notice identifying the parish of São Pedro appeared in the first half of the 15th century, when it was then a convalescent retreat of Sé. Angra do Heroísmo (), or simply Angra, is a city and municipality on Terceira Island, Portugal, and one of the three capital cities of the Azores. Sé (Angra Do Heroísmo)
Sé is a parish in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo on the island of Terceira in the Azores. The population in 2011 was 955, in an area of 1.65 km². It is one of the smallest parishes in Angra do Heroísmo. History Designated the island of Jesus Christ (''Ilha de Jesus Cristo''), at the time of its discovery and exploration by Portuguese navigators: the settlement of Terceira began around 1450, when it was conceded to the Fleming Jácome de Bruges, by Infante D. Pero Anes Do Canto
Pero Anes do Canto (1480–1556) was a Portuguese nobleman, who was born at Guimarães, Portugal and died at Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira in the Azores. He was the superintendent of fortifications on Terceira, and, for his competency in that role and other services to the Portuguese crown, he was rewarded with the title ''moço fidalgo'' (knight-gentleman) of the royal house, and the high office of "Purveyor to the Armada of the Islands and the merchant vessels of the East India trade in all of the islands of the Azores", a title that devolved upon successive members of the Canto family for about three hundred years.
