''Szkło kontaktowe'' (English: ''Contact Lens'') is a Polish satirist program shown seven times a week, twice a day on TVN 24. ''Szkło kontaktowe'' launched on 25 January 2005. It is hosted by Grzegorz Miecugow (deceased in August 2017), Tomasz Sianecki, Wojciech Zimiński and Grzegorz Markowski. Satirists (Artur Andrus, Ilona Łepkowska, Krzysztof Daukszewicz, Tomasz Jachimek, Marek Przybylik, Wojciech Zimiński and Kamil Dąbrowa) along with the host comment on the "funniest" news and stories of the day, with focus on the news from domestic politics. Viewers take part in the show by calling, sending text messages or e-mailing and sharing their opinions on-the-air with the host and his guest. From time to time, special editions, often unscheduled, cover important event. Democratic Left Alliance (Poland)
The Democratic Left Alliance () was a social-democratic political party in Poland. It was formed on 9 July 1991 as an electoral alliance of centre-left parties, and became a single party on 15 April 1999. It was the major coalition party in Poland between 1993 and 1997, and between 2001 and 2005, with four Prime ministers coming from the party: Józef Oleksy, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, Leszek Miller and Marek Belka. It then faded into opposition, overshadowed by the rise of Civic Platform and Law and Justice. In February 2020, the party initiated a process to absorb the Spring party, choosing the name New Left ( pl, Nowa Lewica), and changing to a more modern logo. Joanna Senyszyn
Joanna Senyszyn (; born 1 February 1949) is a Polish politician and professor of Economics. Senyszyn is member of the left-wing party Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), in which she was vice-president (2005–2008). From 2001 to 2009 she was a member of the Sejm until she was elected as a member of the European Parliament (2009–2014). Since 2019 she is again a member of the Sejm. She is known as a critic of Catholicism. Educational career Joanna Senyszyn holds the academic rank of Professor ordinarius and holds the chair in market research at the University of Gdańsk, where she also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration before being elected to the Sejm. 2006 FIFA World Cup
The 2006 FIFA World Cup, also branded as Germany 2006, was the 18th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. It was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany, which had won the right to host the event in July 2000. Teams representing 198 national football associations from all six populated continents participated in the qualification process which began in September 2003. Thirty-one teams qualified from this process along with hosts Germany for the finals tournament. It was the second time that Germany staged the competition and the first as a unified country along with the former East Germany with Leipzig as a host city (the other was in 1974 in West Germany), and the 10th time that the tournament was held in Europe. 2005 Polish Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Poland on 9 October and 23 October 2005. The outgoing President of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, had served two five-year terms and was unable to stand for a third term. Lech Kaczyński defeated Donald Tusk to become President of Poland. Background Two center-right candidates, Donald Tusk, chairman of the Civic Platform (PO) and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, and Lech Kaczyński, honorary chairman of Law and Justice (PiS) and mayor of Warsaw, led the poll in the first round, as was widely expected.
