Synchronization
Synchronization is the coordination of events to operate a system in unison. For example, the conductor of an orchestra keeps the orchestra synchronized or ''in time''. Systems that operate with all parts in synchrony are said to be synchronous or ''in sync''—and those that are not are '' asynchronous''. Today, time synchronization can occur between systems around the world through satellite navigation signals and other time and frequency transfer techniques. Navigation and railways Time-keeping and synchronization of clocks is a critical problem in long-distance ocean navigation. Before radio navigation and satellite-based navigation, navigators required accurate time in conjunction with astronomical observations to determine how far east or west their vessel traveled. The invention of an accurate marine chronometer revolutionized marine navigation. By the end of the 19th century, important ports provided time signals in the form of a signal gun, flag, or dropping time ...

Synchronised (horse)
Synchronised (7 March 2003 – 14 April 2012) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. A specialist long-distance steeplechaser, he was best known for his performances in the 2011–2012 National Hunt season, when he won the Grade I Lexus Chase in Ireland before winning Britain's most prestigious steeplechase, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, on 17 March. He was euthanized after incurring a leg fracture in the Grand National on 14 April 2012. Background Synchronised, considered a small horse by steeplechasing standards, was a bay gelding with a broad white blaze. He was bred at the Martinstown Stud, County Limerick, Ireland by Noreen McManus, the wife of his owner J. P. McManus. His sire, Sadler's Wells is best known for his success as a sire of flat racers, having been Champion sire on 14 occasions, but has also got notable jumpers including the three-time Champion Hurdler Istabraq, and is the sire of the leading National Hunt stallion Oscar. Synchronised's ...

Mutual Exclusion
In computer science, mutual exclusion is a property of concurrency control, which is instituted for the purpose of preventing race conditions. It is the requirement that one thread of execution never enters a critical section while a concurrent thread of execution is already accessing said critical section, which refers to an interval of time during which a thread of execution accesses a shared resource or shared memory. The shared resource is a data object, which two or more concurrent threads are trying to modify (where two concurrent read operations are permitted but, no two concurrent write operations or one read and one write are permitted, since it leads to data inconsistency). Mutual exclusion algorithm ensures that if a process is already performing write operation on a data object ritical sectionno other process/thread is allowed to access/modify the same object until the first process has finished writing upon the data object ritical sectionand released the object fo ...

Synchronizer (other)
The term synchronizer may refer to: * In automobiles, a synchronizer is part of a synchromesh manual transmission that allows the smooth engagement of gears. * In aerial warfare, a synchronizer is a device that permits an automatic weapon to fire between the blades of a revolving propeller. * In electronics, an arbiter helps order signals in asynchronous circuits. There are also electronic digital circuits called ''synchronizers'' that attempt to perform arbitration in one clock cycle. Synchronizers, unlike arbiters, are prone to failure. (See metastability in electronics.) * In electronics, whenever there is signal transfer between two systems operating at different frequencies or same frequency with different phases, synchronizer block is used as an interface so that signal from transmitter block is reliably interpreted by the receiver. The block usually uses metastable hardened flops offering single or double latency delays at the output. This block ensures that there is ...

Synchronization (other)
Synchronization is the coordination of events to operate a system in unison. Synchronization may also refer to: * Synchronization (alternating current), the process of matching the speed and frequency of a generator or other source to a running network * Synchronization (computer science), the synchronization of processes and data * Synchronization (Nazi Germany) or ''Gleichschaltung'', the process by which the Nazi Party established control over all aspects of German society * Synchronization rights, also called "sync licensing", to provide copyright permission for music to be used in video, videogames, or other AV works See also * Sync (other) * Synchronization in telecommunications Many services running on modern digital telecommunications networks require accurate synchronization for correct operation. For example, if telephone exchanges are not synchronized, then bit slips will occur and degrade performance. Telecommuni ...
