The women's 400 metre individual medley event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 6 August at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium. Summary Four years after narrowly missing the podium in London, Hungary's Katinka Hosszú, nicknamed the "Iron Lady", opened her redemptive Games by dominating the 400 m individual medley with a new world record and the first title of her Olympic career. Dominating the race from the very start, she pulled away from the field to a gold-medal finish with a 4:26.36. Hosszú's swim also demolished the world record of 4:28.43, set by China's Ye Shiwen at the previous Games. Trailing the leader by almost five seconds, U.S. swimmer Maya DiRado turned ahead of the world-record pace for over half the race, and managed to finish with a silver in 4:31.15. The Olympic Aquatics Stadium ( pt, Estádio Aquático Olímpico) was a temporary aquatics center in the Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. The venue hosted the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, swimming events, Synchronized swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Synchronized swimming finals and Water polo at the 2016 Summer Olympics, water polo finals at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, para-swimming events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Aimee Willmott (born 26 February 1993) is an English competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games, FINA world championships and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games. She was the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in the 400 metres individual medley. Life Willmott competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics in the 400 metre individual medley reaching the final in 2016. She competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 2014 games in Glasgow where she won silver medals in the 400 metre individual medley and 200 metres butterfly and the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia where she won a gold medal in the 400 metre individual medley. Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên (born November 9, 1996 in Cần Thơ) is a national-record holding swimmer from Vietnam. She swam for Vietnam at the 2016 Olympics. At the 2014 Asian Games, she won Vietnam's first-ever medal in Swimming. She has been named Vietnam's Athlete of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. As of the end of 2014, she holds the Vietnam Records in 14 of 17 long course individual events. At the 2012 Olympics, she swam the 200 Backstroke and the 400 Individual Medley. Dr. Husain AHZ Al-Musallam (born 19 May 1960 in Kuwait) is the present Director General of Olympic Council of Asia and Secretary General of Kuwait Olympic Committee. He is a former aeroplane pilot. Early life and career Mussallam was born on 19 May 1960 in Kuwait. He joined the swimming club of Kazma Sports Club at the age of 8 and became a member of the national team at 13.
