Swimming At The 2011 World Aquatics Championships – Men's 50 Metre Breaststroke
The men's 50 metre breaststroke competition of the swimming events at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships was held on July 26 with the heats and the semifinals and July 27 with the final. Records Prior to the competition, the existing world and championship records were as follows. Results Heats 51 swimmers participated in 7 heats. Semifinals The semifinals were held at 18:19. Semifinal 1 Semifinal 2 Final The final was held at 19:37. Video replay shows Felipe França Silva using an illegal dolphin kick at the finish; however the official on deck did not see it and so the results stand. Felipe Alves França da Silva (born 14 May 1987) is a Brazilian breaststroke swimmer, who competed for his country in three Olympic Games. He started swimming at Esporte Clube União Suzano when he was just three years old. At age 13, he became the champion in Brazilian Juniors Category II. After training at the Gustavo Borges academy in Curitiba, França moved to the state capital, São Paulo, and joined Esporte Clube Pinheiros. Amini Tuitavake Britteon Fonua (born 14 December 1989) is a Tongan competitive swimmer. Career Fonua's swimming career began at the Roskill Swimming Club based at Cameron Pool in Auckland, coached by Sandra Burrow from 1999–2007. He broke numerous Auckland and New Zealand Age Group Records under Burrow's tenure. He then moved to West Auckland Aquatics in 2007, and was coached by Donna Bouzaid. In the Fall of 2008, Fonua enrolled at Texas A&M on a swimming scholarship. While at Texas A&M he was a peer voted Team Captain, Big XII Conference Champion, NCAA All-American, and recipient of The Aggie Heart Award. Studies at Texas Christian University Edgar Crespo was a top swimmer at the college level. He received a scholarship as student/athlete to Texas Christian University. While he was in college he competed in events for both the university and his country. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (International Marketing and Entrepreneurship Management). Barry Murphy (born 5 October 1985) is an Irish swimmer from Dublin, Ireland. Despite his setting of the 50 m and 100 m freestyle national records in 2008, Murphy just missed qualifying for Ireland's team at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
