Swimming At The 2011 World Aquatics Championships – Men's 100 Metre Backstroke
The men's 100 metre backstroke competition of the swimming events at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships was held on July 25 with the preliminary round and the semifinals and July 26 with the final. Records Prior to the competition, the existing world and championship records were as follows. Results Heats 50 swimmer participated in 7 heats. Swimoff As two swimmers had the same time in the heats at place 16 they had to participate in a swimoff to determine the last semifinal swimmer, it was held at 11:36. Semifinals The semifinals were held at 18:10. Semifinal 1 Semifinal 2 Final The final was held at 19:06. Jérémy Stravius (born 14 July 1988) is a French swimmer, swimming freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. Career Stravius appeared on the world stage at the 2009 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul where he was part of the winning 4 × 50 m freestyle relay and finished in the top 8 in the 50 m breaststroke. The next year at the 2010 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Hungary, Stravius won his first medal at an international meet, winning a silver in the 100 m backstroke. At this meet, he also was part of the winning 4 × 100 m medley relay and the bronze medal winning team of the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Stravius won his first international gold winning the gold medal in the 100 m backstroke at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai. He shared it with countryman Camille Lacourt. Omar Andrés Pinzón García (born June 17, 1989) is a competitive swimmer who represented Colombia at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece and 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Pinzón attended college in the United States, where he swam for the University of Florida. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Pinzón finished in thirty-fifth place in the men's 200-meter backstroke. Charles Francis (born August 17, 1988) is a Canadian competitor swimmer and backstroker. He was born in the small town of Cowansville, Quebec. Francis competed at the 2007 Pan American Games, but failed to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Thiago Machado Vilela Pereira (born 26 January 1986) is a retired Brazilian international competition swimmer. One of the greatest swimmers in the history of Brazil, Pereira won the silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, beating the then-current Olympic champion Michael Phelps. Guy Marcos Barnea (; born 9 September 1987) is an Israeli swimmer who represented Israel at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won three medals at the European Championships. As of March 2016, he held the Israeli records in the long course 50m backstroke (24.64), the short course 50m backstroke (23.27), and the long course 100m butterfly (51.36).
