Swimming At The 2011 Pan American Games – Men's 200 Metre Backstroke
The men's 200 metre backstroke competition of the Swimming (sport), swimming events at the 2011 Pan American Games took place on 21 October at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center. The Swimming at the 2007 Pan American Games – Men's 200 metre freestyle, defending Pan American Games champion was Thiago Pereira of Brazil. This race consisted of four lengths of the pool, all in backstroke. Records Prior to this competition, the existing world and Pan American Games records were as follows: Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) was able to enter up to two entrants providing they had met the A standard (2:04.1) in the qualifying period (January 1, 2010 to September 4, 2011). NOCs were also permitted to enter one athlete providing they had met the B standard (2:07.8) in the same qualifying period. Results All times are in minutes and seconds. Scotiabank Aquatics Center
The Scotiabank Aquatics Center is an aquatics center built for the 2011 Pan American Games in the municipality of Zapopan, near Guadalajara, Mexico. It was opened June 22, 2011, built at a cost of $USD31.7m (380 million pesos). It is the most modern aquatic complex of its kind in Latin America, and considered to be the second best in the world by the Fédération Internationale de Natation. It has a permanent capacity 3,593, but will have a capacity of 5,000 spectators for the Pan American Games. The outside of the building is shaped like a wave. It contains two 50m Olympic sized pools and a diving tank. During the 2011 Pan America Games it will host the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. After the Pan American Games it will used as a high performance training centre, and for the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. Mauricio Fiol Villanueva (born March 26, 1994) is a Peruvian swimmer. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's 200 metre butterfly, finishing in 25th place overall in the heats, failing to qualify for the semifinals. He has also won a bronze medal in 1500 metre free in the 2012 Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia. Fiol won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in the 200 meter butterfly event, but was tested positive for stanozolol after the race.
