Swimming At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 Metre Individual Medley
The men's 400 metre individual medley event at the 2008 Olympic Games took place on 9–10 August at the Beijing National Aquatics Center in Beijing, China. U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps blasted a new world record to defend his title in the event, and more importantly, claim his first Olympic gold, seventh career, and ninth overall. Phelps expected to get a major challenge from teammate Ryan Lochte, but he pulled away from the field on the breaststroke leg, and then opened up his lead on the freestyle leg to a strong finish in 4:03.84, more than a second faster than his world record from the U.S. Olympic Trials. Hungary's László Cseh earned his first ever Olympic silver medal at these Games, in a European record of 4:06.16. Beijing National Aquatics Center
The National Aquatics Centre (), and colloquially known as the Water Cube () and the Ice Cube (), is an aquatics center at the Olympic Green in Beijing, China. The facility was originally constructed to host the aquatics competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Riaan Schoeman (born 18 September 1989 in Vereeniging) is a South African swimmer who specializes in the Individual Medley and Freestyle events. He is a multiple-time South African champion and record holder for the Individual Medley and Freestyle events. Bradley Kevin Ally (born December 11, 1986) is a three-time Olympic swimmer from Barbados. Keith Beavers
Keith Beavers (born February 9, 1983) is a backstroke and medley swimmer from Canada who represented his native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. In 2006, at the Pan Pacific Trials, he lowered his 200-metre backstroke record to 1:58.97. He was born in London, Ontario, and grew up in the town of Orangeville, Ontario, attending Mono and Amaranth Public School. He began his swimming career at the age of 6 with the Orangeville Otters Swim Club, where he swam to the age of 8. He then switched to the Dorado Stars Swim Club where he swam for a number of years.
