Swimming At The 2007 Pan American Games – Men's 100 Metre Breaststroke
The Men's 100m Breaststroke event at the 2007 Pan American Games occurred at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 16—18 July. Three first round heats were raced, comprising a total of 20 swimmers. The fastest 16 swimmers from this group qualified to move on to the semifinals stage. The 16 swimmers who advanced then raced in two semifinals of eight swimmers each, the results being pooled and the fastest eight swimmers advancing to the final. Scott Dickens won the gold medal, breaking a string of 9 U.S. titles in a row. Before him, only other non-American had won the race, the Brazilian José Fiolo, in the first edition of the Games which this race was held, in 1967. 2007 Pan American Games
The 2007 Pan American Games, officially known as the XV Pan American Games, were a major continental multi-sport event that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 13 to 29, 2007. A total of 5,633 athletes from 42 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 332 events in 34 sports and in 47 disciplines. During the Games, 95 new Pan American records were set; 2,196 medals were awarded; 1,262 doping control tests were performed and about 15,000 volunteers participated in the organization of the event, which was an Olympic qualification for 13 International Federations (IFs). Rio de Janeiro was awarded the Games over San Antonio, Texas, United States, on August 24, 2002, having won an absolute majority of votes (30–21) from the 51 members of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) in the first round of voting during the XL PASO General Assembly held in Mexico City, Mexico. Daniel Velez
Daniel Velez (born December 9, 1983) is a Puerto Rican former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He represented his nation Puerto Rico at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a career total of three medals (two golds and one bronze) at the 2005 Maccabiah Games in Netanya, Israel. Velez was also a member of the NC State Wolfpack swimming and diving team under head coach Brooks Teal, while pursuing his degree in psychology at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Velez competed for the Puerto Rican squad in the men's 100 m breaststroke at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Five months before the Games, he threw down a lifetime best of 1:03.63 to slip past the FINA B-cut (1:03.72) by almost a tenth of a second (0.1) at the All-American Championships in Austin, Texas, United States. Edgar Roberto Crespo Echeverría (born 11 May 1989 in Panama City, Panama) is a Panamanian swimmer, who has been representing Panama in swimming competitions around the world. Studies at Texas Christian University Edgar Crespo was a top swimmer at the college level. He received a scholarship as student/athlete to Texas Christian University. Bradley Kevin Ally (born December 11, 1986) is a three-time Olympic swimmer from Barbados. He represented Barbados at the Barbados at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004, 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Sergio Andrés Ferreyra (born May 21, 1977) is an Argentine former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He is a multiple-time Argentine record holder, and a two-time medalist in the breaststroke (both 100 and 200 m) at the 2006 South American Games in Buenos Aires. He is also a member of Club Regatas Corrientes, and is coached and trained by Sergio Oscar Sainz.
