Swimming At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 Metre Individual Medley
The men's 200 metre individual medley event at the 2000 Summer Olympics took place on 20–21 September at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre in Sydney, Australia. Massimiliano Rosolino blasted a new Olympic record to add Italy's third gold medal in swimming at these Games. He edged out U.S. swimmer Tom Dolan with a fastest split (33.52) on the breaststroke leg to take over the lead at the final turn, and hit the wall first in a sterling time of 1:58.98, clipping 0.93 seconds off a record set by Hungary's Attila Czene in Atlanta. Dolan, the defending champion in the 400 m individual medley four days earlier, became the first American to break a two-minute barrier, taking home the silver in a new national record of 1:59.77. Matthew Dunn
Matthew Stephen Dunn (born 2 September 1973) is an Australian former freestyle and medley swimmer who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992. Dunn trained at the Australian Institute of Sport under Russian swimming coach Gennadi Touretski, who also taught Alexander Popov. Dunn was a specialist in the short course (25 m) events, and won several medals in the event in the 1990s. Curtis Allen Myden (born December 31, 1973) is a former breaststroke and medley swimmer from Canada, who competed at three consecutive Summer Olympics in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He won a total number of three medals at the Olympics, all of them bronze. Myden was one of Canada's leading swimmers in the 1990s. He was coached by Canadian coach Deryk Snelling.
