Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. Mike Wenden
Michael Vincent Wenden, (born 17 November 1949) is a champion swimming (sport), swimmer who represented Australia in the 1968 Summer Olympics and 1972 Summer Olympics. In 1968 he won four medals: gold in both the 100- and 200-metre freestyle (setting world records in each) and a silver and a bronze in freestyle relays. Wenden was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1979. He was one of the eight bearers of the Olympic Flag at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Wenden was appointed an MBE in 1969 and made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2006 Australia Day Honours for "service to the Olympic movement as an administrator and competitor". Wenden holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales. Roger Hendrik van Hamburg (born 5 April 1954) is a former Freestyle swimming, freestyle and Medley swimming, medley swimmer from the Netherlands, who competed for his home country at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Peter Prijdekker
Peter Cornelis Prijdekker (born 22 June 1948) is a former swimmer from the Netherlands. He competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where he was eliminated in the heats of the 200 m, 4 × 100 m and the 4 × 200 m freestyle events. He grew up in South Africa, but moved to the Netherlands to be able to participate in the Olympic Games, in the time when South Africa was banned by the International Olympic Committee, IOC. After retirement from senior swimming he competed in the masters category. He also took part in five Gay Games winning at least 18 gold medals. He is gay, and was banished by his swimming club after his partner died of AIDS. He then moved to London, where in 2007, together with Tim Denyer, he founded the Red Top Swim company, where he works as a swimming coach. References

Colin Cunningham (born 15 September 1954) is an English former freestyle and backstroke swimmer. Swimming career He represented Great Britain at the 1972 Summer Olympics. There he competed in the individual 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke. Cunningham was also a member of the relay teams in the 4×200-metre freestyle and 4×100-metre medley. Brian Phillips (born March 30, 1954) is a Canadian former competitive swimmer who won four medals in major international championship events during the early 1970s. Phillips won a total of six medals in major international championships, including the FINA World Championships, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games. As a 17-year-old at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, Phillips won silver medals as a member of the second-place Canadian teams in the 4x100-metre freestyle and 4x200-metre freestyle relay events.
