The men's 400 metre freestyle event at the 1952 Olympic Games took place between 28 and 30 July at the Swimming Stadium. This swimming event used freestyle swimming, which means that the method of the stroke is not regulated (unlike backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly events). 1952 Summer Olympics
The 1952 Summer Olympics ( fi, Kesäolympialaiset 1952; sv, Olympiska sommarspelen 1952), officially known as the Games of the XV Olympiad ( fi, XV olympiadin kisat; sv, Den XV olympiadens spel) and commonly known as Helsinki 1952 ( sv, Helsingfors 1952), were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1952 in Helsinki, Finland. After Japan declared in 1938 that it would be unable to host 1940 Olympics in Tokyo due to the ongoing Second Sino-Japanese War, Helsinki had been selected to host the 1940 Summer Olympics, which were then cancelled due to World War II. was a Japanese Olympic freestyle swimmer. In 1948, he set world records in the 400 and 1,500 meter freestyles at the Japan national championships. Graham Johnston (swimmer)
Graham M. Johnston (10 July 1930 – 27 July 2019) was a South African swimmer who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Johnston graduated from the University of Oklahoma and lived in the United States of America beginning in 1958. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1998 and is acknowledged worldwide as one of the greatest Masters swimmers of all time. Johnston was born in Bloemfontein on 10 July 1930. His father, who managed a swimming pool, taught him to swim before the age of two. As a youth, he attended the Afrikaans all-boys school, Grey College. Completely comfortable in the water, Graham achieved national swimming success during his high school and college years and throughout the rest of his life. Federico Zwanck
Federico Zwanck (born 1 March 1934) is an Argentine former freestyle swimmer. In the National Championships of Argentina in 1952, he was victorious in the 200m, 400m and 800m. He competed in three events at the 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1955, he competed in the Pan American Games, in which he won two silver medals, one in medley and another in freestyle. In September 1956, he and his teammates achieved the South American record for 4x200 freestyle. It was then planned that he competed in the Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956, but the political situation did not allow it.
