Sandwell Aquatics Centre
Sandwell Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility located in Londonderry, Smethwick, West Midlands, England. It contains an Olympic-size swimming pool (one of only two in the West Midlands region), a 10-metre diving board with 25 metre pool (the only one in the whole of the Midlands), a community swimming pool and permanent seating for 1,000 spectators with an additional 4,000 seats during the Games. Construction began in January 2020 and opened on 12th April 2022 to mark 100 days until the start of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The centre was initially used for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was the only venue constructed for the games. After the games, the centre is scheduled to be redeveloped and will officially open for public use in May 2023 when it will be operated by the Sandwell Leisure Trust. Ruslan Gaziev (born August 16, 1999) is a Canadian competitive swimmer of Avar descent who specializes in the freestyle. Gaziev currently resides and trains in Toronto. Career In 2017, Gaziev won two gold medals as part of mixed relay teams at the 2017 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, including breaking the World Junior record in the 4x100 freestyle relay. In 2018, Gaziev was named to his first senior team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Gaziev also competed at the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. As part of the 2021 Canadian Olympic swimming trials in Toronto, Gaziev finished in third in the 100m freestyle. This qualified him for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Jason Edward Lezak (born November 12, 1975) is an American former competitive swimmer and swimming executive. As a swimmer, Lezak specialized in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle races. His pro career lasted for nearly fifteen years, spanning four Olympic games and eight Olympic medals. Garrett Weber-Gale (born August 6, 1985) is an American competition swimmer, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and world record-holder in two events. Early life Weber-Gale is Jewish, and was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin in 2003. He then competed for the Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team of the University of Texas from 2003 to 2007. In 2006, he was the NCAA Division I champion in the 100-yard freestyle. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. Jeremy Bagshaw
Jeremy Bagshaw (born 21 April 1992) is a Canadian swimmer and medical student. He competed in the men's 400 metre freestyle event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships placing 16th. Training at the University of California-Berkeley, Bagshaw swam for the California Golden Bears Men's swimming team, helping bring them many victories. In 2014 he was named team captain, and the Bears brought home the NCAA's championship. He is currently the fastest 400m freestyler in Canada, holding the time of 3:48.88. He has represented Canada at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, 2017 World Aquatics Championships and the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
