Tokyo Aquatics Centre
The is an indoor swimming pool in the Mori- Beach Park () in Tatsumi in the Kōtō ward in eastern Tokyo. Construction began in April 2017 and was completed in 2020. The total construction cost was 56.7 billion yen, ¥ (471 million Euro, €). The opening, scheduled for 22 March 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and took place on 23 July 2020 without an audience. The swimming hall was built for the 2020 Summer Olympics and can accommodate up to 12,000 spectators. The arena will also be used for swimming competitions at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. The swimming arena has two swimming pools and a pool for water diving. The roof was built on the ground and raised step by step to a height of 37 metres. Julia Kay Gaffney (born May 1, 2000) is an American Paralympic swimmer who competes in international level events. She was born with proximal femoral focal deficiency and had her right leg with amputated above the knee and her left leg amputated below the knee due to fibular hemimelia when she was born. Gaffney was brought up in a Russian orphanage before being adopted by an American family from Arkansas when she was five years old. Sporting career Gaffney wanted to play softball but due to her disability circumstances she found it too difficult, she was then encouraged to take swimming lessons and started competing in 2014. Erel Halevi (Hebrew: אראל הלוי, born 13 January 1991) is an Israeli swimmer, who competes for her nation internationally. As well as taking part in the 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics, she has also won two bronze medals at the IPC Swimming European Championships. Career Erel Halevi was born on 13 January 1991. At the age of 11, she became reliant on a wheelchair due to an autoimmune disease, learning to walk on crutches after some time. Halevi underwent rehabilitation at Sheba Medical Center for several years, but saw no further improvement in her condition. She remained positive, as she had already seen progress in moving from the wheelchair to crutches. Isabella Vincent (born 14 January 2006) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. At the age of fifteen, she was the youngest Australian swimmer selected for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, where she won a silver and bronze medal.
