The Olympic Aquatics Stadium ( pt, Estádio Aquático Olímpico) was a temporary aquatics center in the Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. The venue hosted the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, swimming events, Synchronized swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Synchronized swimming finals and Water polo at the 2016 Summer Olympics, water polo finals at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, para-swimming events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Structure The center was designed as a temporary structure, a form of nomadic architecture similar to the Future Arena, which hosted Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, handball. After completion of the two Games, it was dismantled and its parts were used in the construction of two new, different facilities. A total of eleven events were contested for different classifications. Competition format Each event consisted of two rounds: heats and final. The top eight swimmers overall in the heats progressed to the final. If there were fewer than eight swimmers in an event, no heats were held and all swimmers qualify for the final. S5 (classification)
S5, SB4, SM5 are disability swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. The class includes people with a moderate level of disability, and includes people with full use of their arms and hands, but limited to no use of their trunk and legs. It also includes people with coordination problems. A variety of disabilities are represented by this class including people with cerebral palsy. The class competes at the Paralympic Games. Definition This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. Swimming classifications are on a gradient, with one being the most severely physically impaired to ten having the least amount of physical disability.
