London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Ellie Cole
Ellie Victoria Cole, (born 12 December 1991) is an Australian retired Paralympic swimmer and wheelchair basketball player. After having her leg amputated due to cancer, she trained in swimming as part of her rehabilitation program and progressed more rapidly than instructors had predicted. She began competitive swimming in 2003 and first competed internationally at the 2006 IPC Swimming World Championships, where she won a silver medal. Since then, she has won medals in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, the Commonwealth Games, the Paralympic Games, the IPC Swimming World Championships, and various national championships. Sarai Gascón Moreno (born 16 November 1992 in Terrassa, Province of Barcelona) is a Spanish paralympic swimmer. Personal life Gascón was born 16 November 1992 in Terrassa, Province of Barcelona. She has a disability in that she was born without part of her left forearm. In 2013, she was awarded the silver Royal Award for Merit in Sports (Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo). Irina Grazhdanova (russian: Ирина Гражданова, born 25 July 1987) is a paralympic swimmer from Russia competing mainly in category S9 events. Career Irina competed at both the 2004 and 2008 Summer Paralympics. In both games she won a silver in the 50m freestyle behind South Africa's Natalie du Toit. In 2004, she also competed in the 100m butterfly where she finished last in her heat, 200m individual medley finishing in fifth in her heat but not advancing to the final, 100m freestyle finishing seventh in the final and was part of the Russian team that missed out on bronze in the 4 × 100 m medley by 0.12 seconds. In the 2008 games she also competed in the 100m butterfly, the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and the 400m freestyle but failed to make the final in any of the events. Natalie Du Toit
Natalie du Toit OIG MBE (; born 29 January 1984) is a South African swimmer. She is best known for the gold medals she won at the 2004 Paralympic Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. She was one of two Paralympians to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing; the other being table tennis player Natalia Partyka. Du Toit became the third amputee ever to qualify for the Olympics, where she placed 16th in the 10K, "Marathon", swim. Early life Du Toit was born in Cape Town, South Africa and attended Timour Hall Primary school. She began competing internationally in swimming at the age of 14. In February 2001 her left leg was amputated at the knee after she was hit by a car while riding her scooter back to school after swimming practice. She was 17 at the time. Biography Elizabeth Stone was adopted on the 4th of July at age 4 from Kutaisi, Georgia. In the last year of high school she used to compete in track & field and also sometimes run a race for River Bank Run in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Amy Marren
Amy Marren (born 14 August 1998) is a British para swimmer who became the SM9 200m individual medley world champion at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships. At the same championships, she won gold in the S9 100m butterfly, as well as being a member of the British women’s relay teams that won both the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x100m medley relay (breaking the previous world record, also set by GB in 2011, by six seconds).
