London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Rebecca Meyers
Rebecca Meyers (born November 20, 1994, in Baltimore) is a Paralympic swimmer of the United States. She won three gold and one silver medals in Rio 2016. She was also a member of the 2012 Paralympic Team, and won a silver and bronze in London. Rebecca Meyers has also competed at the 2009 Summer Deaflympics which was held in Taiwan, which is also her only appearance at the Deaflympics. She also clinched a bronze medal in the freestyle relay event in the 2009 Summer Deaflympics. Biography Meyers has Usher syndrome and has been deaf since she was born. Since she was young she has used a cochlear implant, an electronic device that allows her to hear. Meyers is also losing her vision to a disease called retinitis pigmentosa (RP), and has a Seeing Eye dog named Birdie, who helps her navigate the world. Rhiannon Henry
Rhiannon Henry (born 20 May 1987) is a Welsh swimmer, paracyclist and paratriathlete who has competed in the Paralympic Games on three occasions winning two medals in swimming events. She also won World and European Championship medals as a swimmer. However, after coming away from the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London without a medal, she switched to paracyling and joined the British Cycling Paralympic Academy programme, competing as a visually-impaired rider as part of a tandem pairing. Personal Prudence Elise Watt was born on 1 January 1987 in Newcastle, New South Wales. She was born premature at 24 weeks and the high levels of oxygen in her system resulted in her retina being damaged. Elena Krawzow (born 26 October 1993) is a blind German Paralympic swimmer who specializes in breaststroke and freestyle. She has macular degeneration, leaving her with only 3% vision. Early life and career Born in Mergen, a village in southern Kazakhstan, Elena Krawzow emigrated with her German-Kazakhstani family, moving to Russia, where she was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Whilst in Russia, Krawzow attend a boarding school for disabled children, before resettling in Germany aged 11.
