London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Chloe Davies
Chloe Davies (born 15 December 1998) is a British Paralympic swimmer. Davies competes in S14 events mainly freestyle, backstroke and medley preferring shorter distances. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics becoming Great Britain's youngest competitor at the Games. Career history Davies was born in Midsomer Norton, England in 1998. Davies, who has difficulties with her short-term memory and also suffers from an auditory processing disorder, began swimming when her mother took her to the local pool as a baby. She joined a local club and began competing from the age of seven. Davies joined Trowbridge ASC and began competing at national level. In 2011, at the age of 12, she entered the National Short Course Championships in Sheffield, where she set a British record in the S14 category for the 100m backstroke. Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE (born 22 August 1996) is a British Paralympic swimmer. Applegate competes in the S14 classification for swimmers with intellectual disabilities, mainly freestyle and backstroke preferring shorter distances. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics and on 2 September, Applegate won the gold setting a Paralympic record in the S14 200m freestyle. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to swimming. Early life Applegate was born in 1996 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Bethany Firth
Bethany Charlotte Firth, (born 14 February 1996) is a Northern Irish swimmer. Since 2014 she has competed for Great Britain; previously, Firth had represented Ireland. A six time Paralympic gold medalist, she has won gold in her specialist event - the 100 metres backstroke - for both Ireland at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and Great Britain at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics. These were in addition to the Mixed 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay S14 at the 2020 Games, and 200 metres medley and 200 metres freestyle for Great Britain at the 2016 Games, where she was the nation's most successful Paralympian with three golds and a silver medal.
