Pan Am Pool
The Pan Am Pool is an indoor swimming facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada built for the 1967 Pan American Games. It is located in southwest Winnipeg and consists of three pools: two are used for competitive swimming and one is a children's "kiddie pool". Overview Architecture The Pan Am's commissioners were motivated by an ambitious social policy of providing recreational opportunities to a wide population. As such, The Pan Am Pool features many characteristics of Brutalist architecture: the exterior of the centre presents four enormous bare concrete walls suspended above a vertically-patterned concrete main level, while the interior also made extensive use of ''béton brut'' in a "typically Brutalist manner". Another example is the heavy mullions of the narrow clerestory windows. Matthew Busbee
Matthew Busbee was fourteen-time All-American swimmer, three-time NCAA 200-meter freestyle relay champion (1997, 1999, 2000), two-time NCAA Championship team member (1997 & 1999), who was selected as an NCAA Top VIII Award winner as one of the eight top NCAA student-athletes and the 2000 male Walter Byers Scholarship winner as the National Collegiate Athletic Association's top scholar-athlete. He was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree (1999, 2nd team & 2000, first team), and a three-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American (1998 3.80, 1999 3.82, 2000 4.00). Felipe Delgado, born Felipe Delgado Martillo on July 14, 1973, is an Ecuadorian swimmer who is a competitor in 50m & 100m Freestyle. At the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, he finished 6th in the 50-metre freestyle, 7th in the 200-metre freestyle, and 8th in the 100-metre freestyle. Allan Murray (swimmer)
Allan Murray (born 19 June 1972) is a Bahamian former swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a three-time Olympian (1992, 1996, and 2000), and a top 16 finalist in the 50 m freestyle at his second Olympic appearance in Atlanta. While studying in the United States, Murray was a member of Georgia Bulldogs swimming team under head coach Jack Bauerle. Career Early years Born and raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas, Murray later emerged as the first Bahamian swimmer to reach a summit of worldwide swimming success. He started his sporting career as a resident athlete for the Swift Swim Club, and was trained by his longtime coach Andy Knowles, a former University of Miami swimmer. Christopher Murray (born November 28, 1978) is a Bahamian former swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He represented his nation Bahamas, along with his older brother and three-time Olympic veteran Allan Murray, at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and later held a Bahamian record in the 100 m freestyle at the Georgia Short Course Invitational. While studying in the United States, Murray trains with his brother Allan for the University of Georgia's Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving team under head coach Jack Bauerle. He also earned All-American honorable mentions as the leadoff in the team's 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays at the 2000 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Gustavo Borges
Gustavo França Borges (born December 2, 1972) is a Brazilian former competitive swimmer. He swam for Brazil in the Summer Olympic Games in: 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Borges has won the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian, with fourone in 1992, two in 1996 and one in 2000behind sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael. He also has the third-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian, with eightbehind swimmer Thiago Pereira and table tennis player Hugo Hoyama. Borges was Brazil's flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Borges' first medal was silver, which he won in the 100-meter freestyle at the 1992 Olympics, which he received after a delay because his lane's timer was not working, and the judges had to review video recordings of the race to verify his place.
