Cristina Teuscher (born March 12, 1978) is an American former freestyle and medley swimmer who was a member of the U.S. women's relay team that won the gold medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Her winning teammates were Jenny Thompson, Trina Jackson and Sheila Taormina. Four years later, while captain of the U.S. women's team, she captured the bronze medal in the 200-meter individual medley at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Teuscher is a 1996 graduate of New Rochelle High School and a 2000 graduate of Columbia University, where she was an All-American and four-time NCAA champion for the Columbia Lions swimming and diving team. She won 12 Ivy League titles, set 17 team records, and received the 1997–98 Honda Sports Award for Swimming and Diving, recognizing her as the outstanding college female swimmer of the year. Marianne Limpert
Marianne Louise Limpert (born October 10, 1972) is a Canadian former freestyle and medley swimmer who competed in the Summer Olympics for Canada in 1992, 1996 and 2000, and won the silver medal in the 200-metre individual medley in 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was also Canada's flagbearer at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The University of New Brunswick, in her hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick, has an annual swim meet, the Marianne Limpert Team Cup, named after her. Eduardo Fernando Pereira Gomes (born 13 August 1981), known as Dady, is a Cape Verdean former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career During his early years, Lisbon-born Dady played professionally with modest clubs in the Portuguese lower leagues, after unsuccessful stints with Boavista F.C. and Sporting CP. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. Pan American Games
The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games. The only Winter Pan American Games were held in 1990. In 2021, the Junior Pan American Games was held for the first time specifically for young athletes. Lisa Jacob
Lisa Rae Jacob (born May 13, 1974) is an American former competition swimmer who won two gold medals at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Jacob won three gold medals in the 200-meter freestyle, the 4×100-meter relay, and the 4×200-meter relay at the 1991 Pan American Games. Later, she attended Stanford University, where she swam for the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. She won three Pacific-10 Conference championships and two NCAA championships in the 1995–96 season. The highlight of her career was at the 1996 Summer Olympics, where as a member of the United States team she won gold medals in both the 4×100 freestyle relay, and the 4×200 freestyle relay. Lisa was married in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004 and resides with her husband outside of Washington, D.C. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions.
