Lisa Jacob
Lisa Rae Jacob (born May 13, 1974) is an American former competition swimmer who won two gold medals at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Jacob won three gold medals in the 200-meter freestyle, the 4×100-meter relay, and the 4×200-meter relay at the 1991 Pan American Games. Later, she attended Stanford University, where she swam for the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. She won three Pacific-10 Conference championships and two NCAA championships in the 1995–96 season. The highlight of her career was at the 1996 Summer Olympics, where as a member of the United States team she won gold medals in both the 4×100 freestyle relay, and the 4×200 freestyle relay. Lisa was married in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004 and resides with her husband outside of Washington, D.C. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. There are also regulations on what types of swimsuits, caps, jewelry and injury tape that are allowed at competitions. 1991 Pan American Games
The 1991 Pan American Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 2 to August 18, 1991. There were 4,519 athletes from 39 countries of the Pan American Sports Organization, PASO community, with events in 33 different sports. The main stadium was the Estadio Panamericano, Havana, Estadio Panamericano, a multi-use stadium in Havana that holds 50,000 people. Host city election Havana was the only non-withdrawn bid to host the 1991 Pan American Games. At the Pan American Games (ODEPA) Assembly, from November 12 to 14, 1986, in Bridgetown, Barbados, Mar del Plata withdrew its bid, leaving Havana as the winner to host the Games. The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games. The only Winter Pan American Games were held in 1990. Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile.
