Stephanie Elkins
Stephanie W. Elkins (born 1963) is an American former competition swimmer who won a gold medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships, setting a new world record. She won another gold medal in the same event at the 1979 Pan American Games. She qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics, again in the 4×100-meter freestyle, but could not participate due to the boycott of the Moscow Olympics led by the United States. Elkins attended Stanford University, and swam for the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition. She graduated from Stanford with a bachelor's degree in organizational behavior, and since 1985 worked in sale and leasing of office and R&D buildings. Maria Elisa Guimarães Zanini (born September 23, 1958, in Rio de Janeiro) is a former international freestyle swimmer from Brazil, who participated in a Summer Olympics for her native country. At 15 years old, she participated at the inaugural World Aquatics Championships in 1973 Belgrade, where she finished 10th in the 400-metre freestyle, 12th in the 800-metre freestyle, and 15th in the 200-metre freestyle. She was at the 1975 World Aquatics Championships in Cali. In the 800-metre freestyle, she finished 17th, with a time of 9:34.48, far from her personal best at this moment, the South American record (9:15.77). Adriana Salazar Lopes Pereira (born August 20, 1964) is a former Olympic freestyle swimmer from Brazil. She was at the 1979 Pan American Games, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she finished 5th in the 4×100-metre freestyle, 8th in the 100-metre butterfly, and was disqualified at the 200-metre butterfly. She was at the 1983 Pan American Games, in Caracas. Pereira was classified to compete in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, but she decided to abandon the swim. Later, she returned to swim. At the 1986 World Aquatics Championships in Madrid, Pereira finished 19th in the 50-metre freestyle, 33rd in the 100-metre butterfly, and 36th in the 100-metre freestyle.
