Swett, South Dakota
Swett is an unincorporated former town of Bennett County, South Dakota, United States. It was put up for sale as a ghost town in June 2014 and had not found a buyer. The town, on U.S. Highway 18 approximately two hours southeast of Rapid City, covers of land. Its buildings include a gas station, museum, a bar and a store. Daniel Simmons-Ritchie of the ''Rapid City Journal'' describes the buildings as "a few ramshackle buildings". The residence is said to be haunted. History Swett was founded in 1931. In 1932 a post office was started in the local grocery store, which was owned by a farmer named Swett. In the 1940s there were 40 residents. At the time the community included a post office, a grocery store, and several houses. The post office was closed in 1945, leaving the community to be known for the saloon. Swett Ranch
Swett Ranch, in Daggett County, Utah southwest of Dutch John, has buildings dating from 1909. A section of the ranch was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It included nine contributing buildings and three contributing structures. John Swett High School
John Swett High School is located in Crockett, California, United States. It serves the communities of Crockett, Port Costa, Rodeo, and the Foxboro area of Hercules. It is named after John Swett, former California Superintendent of Public Instruction, elected in 1863. John Swett High School was established in 1927. The school remains in its original building complex, which was extensively renovated five years after original construction for seismic retrofitting at a cost of two-thirds of the original cost of the complex. John Swett High School is part of the John Swett Unified School District. The school's Indian mascot was dropped by a vote of the School District Board in February 2015. Citing the Golden State Warriors as an example, the school mascot became the Warriors in February 2016. The school always was the Warriors but would go by Indians.
