Sweetheart Of The Gods
''Sweetheart of the Gods'' (german: Liebling der Götter) is a 1960 West German biographical film directed by Gottfried Reinhardt and starring Ruth Leuwerik, Peter van Eyck, and Harry Meyen. The film portrays the life of Renate Müller, a German film actress who died in 1937 in mysterious circumstances. A variety of rumours about Müller's death had developed, but the filmmakers chose to portray it as suicide following Nazi pressure over her relationship with a Jewish diplomat. Following legal objections from Müller's family, the ending was toned down to make her final fate more vague. Leuwerik recreates scenes and songs from several of Müller's films. However their star personae were very different, with Müller famous as a girl-next-door while Leuwerik played the role in her more usual refined fashion. Gottfried Reinhardt
Gottfried Reinhardt (20 March 1913 – 19 July 1994) was an Austrian-born American film director and producer. Biography Reinhardt was born in Berlin, the son of the Austrian theater director Max Reinhardt (until 1904: Max Goldmann), manager of the Deutsches Theater, and his first wife Else Heims. Gottfried attended the Französisches Gymnasium Berlin and began his career as an actor and director at his father's stage. In 1932, he went on a study visit to the US, where he remained after the Nazi '' Machtergreifung'' in Germany on 30 January 1933. In Hollywood, he became assistant director of Ernst Lubitsch, later a production assistant at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, contributing to the making of the 1938 film '' The Great Waltz''. Werner Fuetterer
Werner Fuetterer (10 January 1907 in Barth, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – 7 February 1991 in Benidorm, Province of Alicante, Spain) was a German film actor. He appeared in nearly 100 films between 1925 and 1967. In his early film career, Fuetterer often played young romantic lovers, but never managed the breakthrough to stardom. He later turned to character and supporting roles, often as the main characters best friend. Fuetterer remains perhaps best known for his role as the Archangel in F. W. Murnau's silent film classic ''Faust'' (1926). He later retired from acting and managed a camping facility in Spain, where he died in 1991 at age 84. Steckel was born as Leonhard Steckel in Knihinin, a Galician town that is today a district of the city Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. He began his career as a stage actor and spent the duration of World War II in exile in Zürich, Switzerland, where he had gone to work at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Hannelore Emilie Käte Grete Schroth (; 10 January 1922 – 7 July 1987) was a German film, stage, and television actress whose career spanned over five decades. Career Born in Berlin in 1922, she was the daughter of popular stage and film actors Heinrich Schroth and Käthe Haack. Her older half-brother was actor and film director Carl-Heinz Schroth (1902–1989), who was the product of Schroth's father's earlier marriage to Else Ruttersheim. Schroth began her career as a child actress, and made her film debut at the age of nine in 1931's Max Ophüls' comedy ''Dann schon lieber Lebertran'' opposite her mother.
