Sweeney's Reserve
Sweeney's Reserve is a heritage-listed park at Old Dayboro Road, Petrie, City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 11 December 2008. History Sweeney's Reserve is a picnic ground located on the banks of the North Pine River in the suburb of Petrie to the north of Brisbane. It was used as a rafting ground in the early period of the timber getting industry. Later, the Brisbane to Gympie Road crossed the North Pine River here and the park contains the remains of this road. The remnants of timber bridge piles are located in the adjacent reach of the river. Between World War I and World War II it became a popular picnic and bathing spot maintained by Terence Patrick Sweeney, the owner of small kiosk in the reserve. The picnic ground is named after him. Petrie is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Petrie had a population of 8,674 people. Geography The southern boundary of the suburb is marked by the North Pine River. Petrie is a suburban village with new housing developments on land which was previously used for pine plantations and agriculture. Petrie railway station provides access to regular Queensland Rail City network services to Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast. The Mary River (Kabi Kabi: ''Moocooboola'') is a major river system located in the South East and Wide Bay–Burnett regions of Queensland, Australia. Etymology The river was traditionally named ''Moocooboola'' by the indigenous Australian Kabi people. The river was named ''Wide Bay River'' on 10 May 1842 by early European explorers, Andrew Petrie and Henry Stuart Russell. The official name was changed on 8 September 1847 (prior to Queensland becoming a separate colony) by Charles Augustus FitzRoy, then Governor of New South Wales, to ''Mary River'' — after his wife Lady Mary Lennox (15 August 1790 to 7 December 1847). Petrie Railway Station
Petrie railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Petrie in the Moreton Bay Region. It opened as North Pine railway station in1888 after the nearby North Pine River and was renamed Petrie railway station (after local pioneer Thomas Petrie) in 1911. The station has five platforms. As part of the Redcliffe Peninsula line, the station was expanded with a new island platform built east of the existing platforms. It opened along with the rest of the line on 4 October 2016. As part of the project, a third track was added south of the station to Lawnton. North of the station, the Redcliffe Peninsula line branches off. North Coast Railway Line, Queensland
The North Coast railway line is a 1067 mm railway line in Queensland, Australia. It commences at Roma Street station, Brisbane, and largely parallels the Queensland coast to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The line is electrified between Brisbane and Rockhampton. Waterford is a town and suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , the suburb of Waterford had a population of 5,484 people. Geography The western side of the suburb follows the Logan River while the southern edge draws a straight line along Dairy Creek Road. Here it connects to Gardiner Road which then joins Logan River Road. Waterford-Tamborine Road (State Route 95) starts in the north of Waterford and exits to the south. ''Teredo navalis'', commonly called the naval shipworm or turu, is a species of saltwater clam, a marine bivalve mollusc in the family ''Teredinidae''. This species is the type species of the genus '' Teredo''. Like other species in this family, this bivalve is called a shipworm, because it resembles a worm in general appearance, while at the anterior end it has a small shell with two valves which is adept at boring through wood. This species may have originated in the northeast Atlantic Ocean, but has spread around the world. Arthur Kennedy (governor)
Sir Arthur Edward Kennedy (; 5 April 1809 – 3 June 1883) was a British colonial administrator who served as governor of a number of British colonies, namely Sierra Leone, Western Australia, Vancouver Island, Hong Kong and Queensland. Early life and career Arthur Kennedy was born in Cultra, County Down, Ireland on 5 April 1809, the fourth son of Hugh Kennedy and his wife Grace Dorothea (née Hughes). He was educated by private tutor and in 1823–24 attended Trinity College, Dublin, where he met his predecessor as Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Richard Graves MacDonnell. Kennedy entered the British Army, and was gazetted an Ensign in the 27th Foot 11th Regiment on 15 August 1827. Until 1837 he served with infantry regiments on Corfu. North Pine Sports Club is an Australian football (soccer) club from Dakabin, a suburb of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. The club currently play in the Capital League 1 after relegation from Brisbane Premier League in 2016. History North Pine United Soccer Club was formed in 1974, originally playing its home games on the centre arena of the Lawnton Showgrounds. The club commenced fielding teams competitively in 1977, by joining the Brisbane North Junior Soccer Association and fielding a senior team in Brisbane's Division Seven.
