Swedish Medley Relay
Swedish relay is an athletics track event in which teams comprise four runners. The first runner runs 100 meters, the second one 200 m, the third one 300 m and the fourth runner 400 m, so the total length of the race is one kilometer. Usually Swedish relay is run in the competitions of children and youth, but it has also been run in the DN-Galan, Super Grand Prix competition in Stockholm. It is also contested at Norwegian Championships; the most successful clubs historically being IK Tjalve, IL i BUL and IL Gular. The unofficial world record has been set by a team of four Jamaicans, Christopher Williams, Usain Bolt, Davian Clarke and Jermaine Gonzales at the DN Galan of 25 July 2006 with 1:46.59.See talk page. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. Michael Johnson (sprinter)
Michael Duane Johnson (born September 13, 1967) is an American retired sprinter who won four Olympic gold medals and 8 World Championships gold medals in the span of his career. He formerly held the world and Olympic records in the 200 m and 400 m, as well as the world record in the indoor 400 m. He also once held the world's best time in the 300 m. Johnson is generally considered one of the greatest and most consistent sprinters in the history of track and field. Johnson is the only male athlete in history to win both the 200 meters and 400 meters events at the same Olympics, a feat he accomplished at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Jerome Davis (born August 22, 1977) is an American former sprinter. He attended college at the University of Southern California, and was the Pacific-10 Conference champion in the men's 400m dash four consecutive years from 1996 through 1999. As a sophomore, Davis finished third at the 1997 NCAA men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 45.36 In 1998, he won the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in the 400m event with a time of 45.18. Despite improving his time in the NCAA championships the following year, Davis finished third again, being edged out by LSU's Derrick Brew by 2 one-hundredths of a second for second place. Marcus Brunson (born April 24, 1978) is a retired American sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres. He was a two-sport NCAA athlete - football and track - and a former NCAA 60m dash record holder (6.46). Clinton Hill (born 19 April 1980) is an Australian athlete. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, his family moved to Australia in 1997. Steve Brimacombe (born 7 May 1971) is an Australian athletics coach and former runner. Under the tutelage of renowned Scottish coach Jim Bradley, Brimacombe won the 1991 Stawell Gift after only 8 months of training. At the time he was only 19 and the second youngest winner in Stawell Gift history. In December 1991, Brimacombe won the prestigious Bay Sheffield off 3.75m. On 28 December 1992, Brimacombe set a Colley Reserve track record of 12.28secs off scratch in his semi-final of the prestigious Bay Sheffield. In 1994, Brimacombe caused a huge upset when he won the Australian 200m title beating Dean Capobianco and Damien Marsh who had both run in the 200m world championship final in 1993. Adam Basil (born 14 April 1975) is a former Australian track and field athlete, specialising in 100m and 4 x 100 m relay. Basil joined the Australian Institute of Sport in 2000. He represented Australia at the 1999 World Championships in Seville, Spain, 2003 World Championships in Paris, France and 1994 World Junior Championship in Lisbon, Portugal. He was part of the 4x100m Australian team (Paul Di Bella, Steve Brimacombe & Matt Shirvington) that won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, Canada and the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane.
