The Swedish Pensioners' Association ( sv, Sveriges Pensionärsförbund, SPF) is a non-profit, politically and religiously independent, association of pensioners in Sweden, founded in 1939. It was initially called (SFRF) but changed to its present name in 1986. As of February 2009 has over 257,000 members, divided into 857 clubs and 27 districts. Although politically independent, it is seen as the pensioner's association preferred by non-socialists, as the competing organisation National Pensioners' Organisation has close ties to the Social Democratic Party The name Social Democratic Party or Social Democrats has been used by many political parties in various countries around the world. Swedish National Pensioners' Organisation
The Swedish National Pensioners' Organisation ( sv, Pensionärernas riksorganisation, ''PRO'') is an advocacy group in Sweden representing pensioners. It's the largest pensioners' organisation in Sweden with 399,303 members as of 31 December 2006. PRO describes itself as "politically independent" but has since its founding had close ties to the Swedish Social Democratic labour movement. The current chairman is Lars Wettergren, a former Social Democratic politician. PRO was founded on 1 March 1942. PRO deliberates with the Swedish government in the government's pensioners' committee and in meetings with the Prime Minister, calls on parliament's committee, participates in state investigations, acts as a referral body and participates in the local authorities', county councils' and regions' pensioners' boards. The Swedish Social Democratic Party, formally the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party ( sv, Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti ; S/SAP), usually referred to as The Social Democrats ( sv, link=no, Socialdemokraterna ), is a social-democratic political party in Sweden. Founded in 1889, the SAP is the country's oldest and currently largest party. From the mid-1930s to the 1980s, the Social Democratic Party won more than 40% of the vote. From 1932 to 1976, the SAP was continuously in government. Most recently, the party was heading the government from 2014 to 2022. Eva Eriksson (politician)
Eva Eriksson was Värmland’s county governor in Sweden from 2004-2012. Career Eva Eriksson has been active in politics in Sweden since the early 1990s. Since 2004, along with being Värmland’s county governor, she has been the Chair of the Swedish American Center board. She was also the vice-chair on the Karlstad University Board of Regents. From 1992-2001, Eriksson served as Vice Party Chair Folkpartiet and she served in Parliament from 1994-1999. Her focus during her career has been on welfare, pharmaceuticals, animal rights, animal protection and the environment. She helped to found the Svenskamerikanska Rådet (The Swedish American Council) and is the appointed Chair of the organization and its board. Awards Eriksson received the SCA Great Achievement award for her work in establishing and furthering the connection between Sweden and North America. References
