Swedish Food Workers' Union
The Swedish Food Workers' Union ( sv, Livsmedelsarbetareförbundet, Livs) is a trade union representing workers in the food and drink industries in Sweden. The union was founded on 1 January 1922, when the Swedish Bakery and Confectionery Workers' Union merged with the Swedish Butchers' Union. Like both its predecessors, it affiliated to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. On foundation, it had 9,372 members and by 1959 had grown to 38,053. The Swedish Tobacco Industry Workers' Union joined in 1964, followed by the Swedish Brewery Industry Workers' Union in 1965, and the dairy workers' section of the Swedish Commercial Employees' Union The Swedish Commercial Employees' Union ( sv, Handelsanställdas Förbund, Handels), is Sweden's third-largest blue-collar union, with some 145,000 members, of whom around 25,000 are retired. The Swedish Trade Union Confederation ( sv, Landsorganisationen i Sverige ; literally "National Organisation in Sweden"), commonly referred to as LO (), is a national trade union centre, an umbrella organisation for fourteen Swedish trade unions that organise mainly "blue-collar" workers. The Confederation, which gathers in total about 1.5 million employees out of Sweden's 10 million people population, was founded in 1898 by blue-collar unions on the initiative of the 1897 Scandinavian Labour Congress and the Swedish Social Democratic Party, which almost exclusively was made up by trade unions. In 2019 union density of Swedish blue-collar workers was 60%, a decline by seventeen percentage points since 2006 (blue-collar union density in 2006: 77%). The Livonians, or Livs ( Livonian: ''līvlizt''; Estonian: ''liivlased''; Latvian: ''līvi'', ''lībieši''), are a Balto-Finnic people indigenous to northern and northwestern Latvia. Livonians historically spoke Livonian, a Uralic language closely related to Estonian and related to Finnish. The last person to have learned and spoken Livonian as a mother tongue, Grizelda Kristiņa, died in 2013, making Livonian a dormant language. As of 2010, there were approximately 30 people who had learned it as a second language. Historical, social and economic factors, together with an ethnically dispersed population, have resulted in the decline of the Livonian population, with only a small group surviving in the 21st century.
