''Swastikas for Noddy'' is a 1988 album by English music group Current 93. It charted on '' New Musical Express''s Independent LPs chart in March 1988. It was originally issued simultaneously on CD (with poor sound quality) and LP by Crepuscule Records' industrial subsidiary L.A.Y.L.A.H. Records and later reissued as a remastered CD by Durtro Records in 1994 (with significantly improved sound) under the slightly revised title "Swastikas For Goddy", the renaming being due to copyright infringement issues involving Enid Blyton's character Noddy. “I was obsessed with Noddy,” David Tibet recalled in a 2011 interview, in reference to the album. “I took a load of acid on the top of the house where Rose McDowall was living and I had a vision of Noddy crucified in the sky and it really impressed me… as you would expect. Since Yesterday
"Since Yesterday" is a song performed by Scottish synth-pop duo Strawberry Switchblade, the lead single from their self-titled album. It became their only major hit. Background and composition "Since Yesterday" (primarily written by Rose McDowall) was written during the early days of the band. The song was initially called "Dance" and was debuted at their live shows in 1981-82. The only recording of "Dance" that survives is of a David Jensen BBC session the band did in October 1982, when they were still unsigned. While the musical structure stayed the same, the lyrics were extensively rewritten by McDowall when the duo recorded their debut album, and was eventually retitled "Since Yesterday". In 2015, McDowall revealed that the song is about nuclear war. Other interpretations included a theme of suicide. Elizabeth Hooijschuur (born November 1949), known by her pen name Freya Aswynn, is a Dutch writer and musician, primarily known for her activities related to modern paganism in the United Kingdom. Ian Read is an English neofolk and traditional folk musician, and occultist active within chaos magic and Germanic mysticism circles. Read was a member of Sol Invictus, and founded Fire + Ice in 1991. Early life Read left school at 16, and at the age of 17, he became an adherent of Germanic neopaganism and began studying Germanic paganism. Music career In 1987, Read joined Tony Wakeford's Sol Invictus along with Karl Blake. Read recorded three albums and an EP with Sol Invictus before leaving to form the band Fire + Ice in 1991. Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (; born 23 April 1958), also known as HÖH, is a musician, an art director, and ''allsherjargoði'' (''chief goði'') of Ásatrúarfélagið ("the Ásatrú Association"). Steven Peter Stapleton (born 3 February 1957) is an English musician who is best known as the only constant member of experimental improv outfit Nurse with Wound. He is often seen as one of the pioneers of the British industrial music scene, alongside bands such as Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza and Cabaret Voltaire, although in his music he has explored a wide range of styles, including free-form improvisation, folk, and even Latin American dance rhythms. Rose McDowall (née Porter; born 21 October 1959) is a Scottish musician, forming Strawberry Switchblade with Jill Bryson in 1981. History McDowall was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1959. Her first venture into music was in the Poems, an art-punk trio formed in 1978 with her then-husband Drew McDowall. She then formed Strawberry Switchblade in 1981 with Jill Bryson. After signing with Warner Bros. Records, they enjoyed chart success with their single "Since Yesterday" in 1984; however, later singles and an album did not sell as well as expected. This and internal problems led to an acrimonious split in 1986. Geoffrey Nigel Laurence Rushton (16 February 1962 – 13 November 2004), better known under the pseudonyms John Balance or the later variation Jhonn Balance, was an English musician, occultist, artist and poet. Pearce was born in Sheerwater in Woking, Surrey, and currently resides in Australia, where he has lived since the mid 90s. David Tibet (born David Michael Bunting; 5 March 1960) is a British poet and artist who founded the music group Current 93, of which he is the only full-time member. He was given the name "Tibet" by Genesis P-Orridge, and in January 2005 he announced that he would revert to the name David Michael, although he continues to use the well-known "Tibet" in his public career to date.
