picture info	Old Folks At Home "Old Folks at Home" (also known as " Swanee River") is a minstrel song written by Stephen Foster in 1851. Since 1935, it has been the official state song of Florida, although in 2008 the original lyrics were revised. It is Roud Folk Song Index no. 13880. Composition "Old Folks at Home" was commissioned in 1851 by E. P. Christy for use by Christy's Minstrels, his minstrel troupe. Christy also asked to be credited as the song's creator, and was so credited on early sheet music printings. As a result, while the song was a success, Foster did not directly profit much from it, though he continued to receive royalties for the song. Foster had composed most of the lyrics but was struggling to name the river of the opening line, and asked his brother, Morrison, to suggest one. Synopsis An energy company plans to flood a Tennessee Valley in order to construct a new hydro power plant. Northern engineer Garry arrives in the area to oversee the project. He falls in love with Caroline, the adopted daughter of local landowner Colonel Bradford but makes an enemy of the Colonel's nephew Jack. Jack kills the Colonel during a dispute and tries to frame Garry. He then destroys a dam which leads to Caroline being trapped in a cave until she is rescued by Garry. 	Swanee River (1939 Film) ''Swanee River'' is a 1939 American film directed by Sidney Lanfield and starring Don Ameche, Andrea Leeds, Al Jolson, and Felix Bressart. It is a biopic about Stephen Foster, a songwriter from Pittsburgh who falls in love with the South, marries a Southern girl, then is accused of sympathizing when the Civil War breaks out. Typical of 20th Century Fox biographical films of the time, the film was more fictional than it was factual. 	Swanee River (band) Swanee River is a blues rock band from Northern Ireland. Swanee River was formed in 2004. Their musical style is a mixture of rock, soul, funk and metal. History To date Swanee River has released three EPs and completed countless gigs and tours throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom. In 2008, they supported Irish rock bands such as Taste on a string of dates. In 2009 they were asked back to support Taste on a Northern Irish tour.
