Suwałki
Suwałki (; ; or סוּוואַלק) is a city in northeastern Poland with a population of 69,206 (2021). It is the capital of Suwałki County and one of the most important centers of commerce in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. A relatively young city, Suwałki is one of the largest cities and one of the economic and cultural centers of north-eastern Poland, and the largest city and the capital of the historical Suwałki Region. The city owed its past growth to its administrative role and location on important trade routes, and escaped major destruction in each of the world wars preserving the historic city centre. It is a tourist destination thanks to favourable location near the Suwałki Landscape Park and Wigry National Park. Suwałki is located on the strategically important Via Baltica road connecting Warsaw with Kaunas, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki, about from the southwestern Lithuanian border. Suwałki Region
Suwałki Region ( ; ) is a historical region around the city of Suwałki in northeastern Poland near the border with Lithuania. It encompasses the powiats of Augustów, Suwałki, and Sejny, and roughly corresponds to the southern part of the former Suwałki Governorate. The region was disputed between Poland and Lithuania after their re-emergence as independent states following World War I. This dispute along with the Vilnius question was the cause of the Polish–Lithuanian War and the Sejny Uprising. The area has since been part of Poland, with the exception of the German and Soviet occupation during World War II. The Suwałki Region remains as the center of the Lithuanian minority in Poland. Podlaskie Voivodeship ( ) is a Voivodeships of Poland, voivodeship in northeastern Poland. The name of the voivodeship refers to the historical region of Podlachia (in Polish, ''Podlasie''), and significant part of its territory corresponds to that region. __NOTOC__ Suwałki County () is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Podlaskie Voivodeship, north-eastern Poland, on the Lithuanian border. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Suwałki, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county); there are no towns within the county. Maria Konopnicka
Maria Konopnicka (; ; 23 May 1842 – 8 October 1910) was a Polish people, Polish poet, novelist, children's writer, translator, journalist, critic and activist for women's rights and for Polish independence. She used pseudonyms, including ''Jan Sawa''. She was one of the most important poets of Poland's positivism in Poland, Positivist period. Life Konopnicka was born in Suwałki on 23 May 1842. Her father, Józef Wasiłowski, was a lawyer. She was home-schooled and spent a year (1855–56) at a convent ''pension'' of the Sisters of Eucharistic Adoration in Warsaw (''Zespół klasztorny sakramentek w Warszawie''). She made her debut as a writer in 1870 with the poem, ''"W zimowy poranek"'' ("On a Winter's Morn"). Suwałki Landscape Park (''Suwalski Park Krajobrazowy'') is a protected area ( Landscape Park) in north-eastern Poland, established in 1976, covering an area of . The area of the park is 6337.66 ha, of which approximately 60% is arable land, 10% water, 24% forests and trees, 4% marshy areas, and 2% other land. The lagging of the park covers 9306.24 ha. Vehicle registration plates of Poland indicate the region of registration of the vehicle given the number plate. Law According to Polish law, the registration plate is tied to the vehicle, not the owner. There is no possibility for the owner to keep the licence number for use on a different car, even if it's a cherished registration. The licence plates are issued by the powiat (county) of the vehicle owner's registered address of residence, in the case of a natural person. Wigry National Park
Wigry National Park () is a national park in Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland. It covers parts of the Masurian Lake District and Augustów Primeval Forest (''Puszcza Augustowska''). It is named after Lake Wigry, the largest of the park's many lakes. It is also designated as a Ramsar wetland site, one of 13 such sites in Poland. The park was created on January 1, 1989, on an area of 149.56 km2. Today it is slightly larger at , of which 94.64 km2 is forest, 29.08 km2 is water, and 27.14 km2 is other types of land, mostly agricultural. Strictly protected zones account for 6.23 km2, including 2.83 km2 of woods. The park has its headquarters in the town of Suwałki. European route E 67 is an E-road running from Prague in the Czech Republic to Estonia and by ferry to Finland. It goes via Prague, Wrocław, Warsaw, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki. The route is known as the Via Baltica between Warsaw and Tallinn, with a distance of . It is a significant road connection between the Baltic states and Poland. The Czarna Hańcza, Chornaya Hancha () is the largest river of the Suwałki Region of north-eastern Poland and the Sapockin region of north-western Belarus. It is known for having large postglacial boulders. Yotvingian
Sudovian (also known as Yotvingian, or Jatvingian) was a West Baltic language of Northeastern Europe. Sudovian was closely related to Old Prussian. It was formerly spoken southwest of the Neman river in what is now Lithuania, east of Galindia and in the north of Yotvingia, and by exiles in East Prussia. Name The language is referred to as Yotvingian, Jatvingian or Sudovian. Those names are derived from the southern- and northernmost tribes living in the area. When the Germans learnt the name "Sudovian" from the Prussians, they got to know the name of the northernmost tribe only, while Poles in the south met a tribe calling itself Yatvingian.
