Surfing in Sri Lanka is one of the popular Sport in Sri Lanka, sports in Sri Lanka among foreign tourists despite not being popular among the Sri Lankan locals. Surfing in Sri Lanka dates back to early 1960s. The country has many beaches for surfing, especially in the southern and eastern regions. Ahangama
Ahangama is a suburb of Galle. It is located within the Principality of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, Southern Province. It is located approximately away from the Galle within Galle District of the Southern Province. It is situated on the boundary of Galle District and Matara District. It is a major centre which connects Matara District with Galle District. It is a major suburb on the A02 highway, after Galle. Thiranagama
Thiranagama is a village in the southwestern Galle District of Sri Lanka, known for its luxury hotels including the only two 5-star hotels in the Hikkaduwa region (Riff Hotel and Haritha Villas). Geography Thiranagama is located by the Indian Ocean, north to Galle and south to Colombo. It is located between the tourist town of Hikkaduwa and Dodanduwa. Hikkaduwa Beach
Hikkaduwa is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka located in the Southern Province, about north-west of Galle and south of Colombo. Etymology The name Hikkaduwa is thought to have been derived from the two words ''Sip Kaduwa'', with ''Sip (සිප්)'' being the shorter version of ''Shilpaya'' which refers to knowledge in Sinhalese and ''Kaduwa(කඩුව)'' which means sword. It is believed therefore that the name Hikkaduwa means ''sword of knowledge''. Alternatively it means coral or seashell jungle. 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Bombings
On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of coordinated ISIS-related terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, there were smaller explosions at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. A total of 269 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight bombers, and at least 500 were injured. So Sri Lanka Pro 2019
The So Sri Lanka Pro 2019 was a surfing competition which was held as a part of the World Surfing League Qualifying Series 3000. This was the second edition of the Sri Lanka Pro League and it was also the first such event to be conducted since 2011 after 8 years. It was held from 25 September to 29 September in Arugam Bay coinciding the World Tourism Day on 27 September. The event featured 124 competitors from 24 nations including the retired former world champion Mark Occhilupo. The event was titled as So Sri Lanka which is also used as a slogan to promote tourism industry in Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau from 2018. Sri Lankan Airlines is the official airline partner for the series.
