Surfing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification
Qualification for surfing at the 2020 Summer Olympics will be based on the performances at two editions of the ISA World Surfing Games, the World Surf League Championship Tour, and the Pan American Games. Twenty athletes per gender must qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of two each per NOC. Host nation Japan has been entitled to use a single quota place each in both men's and women's shortboard. If Japan directly qualifies in any of the tournaments, the host country place(s) shall be reallocated to the next highest ranked eligible athlete at the 2021 ISA World Surfing Games. Surfing At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Surfing at the Summer Olympics made its debut in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The Olympics was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but was postponed to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Setting In 2018, the International Surfing Association (ISA) announced that surfing at the 2020 Summer Olympics would take place in the ocean, and not in an artificial wave pool. The contest site for the 2020 Games was announced to be Tsurigasaki Beach located about outside of Tokyo in Ichinomiya, Chiba. To ensure quality surf, the contest will feature a waiting period of 16 days. Once the event runs, it will take two days to finish the competition. Competition structure The 2020 Summer Olympics will use a four-person heat structure. Four athletes will compete at any given time. The best two of each heat will continue to the next round. Michel Bourez
Michel Bourez (born 30 December 1985) is a French professional surfer. Biography Bourez was born on the island of Rurutu in the Tuamotus Islands in French Polynesia and started surfing at age 13. European champion in 2006, Michel entered the ASP World Tour in 2009. His best results on the World Tour came in 2014, with a fifth place in the overall classification, having won twice during the year; at Margaret River Pro 2014 and Rio de Janeiro and third place in Fiji Pro. His 2015 season was hampered by a severe injury in May, when doing a free surf session at Teahupoo. A fractured hand and cervical vertebra forced him out of the Rio and Fiji events. Ramzi Boukhiam (born 14 September 1993 in Agadir) is a Moroccan surfer. He placed 6th overall at the 2019 ISA World Surfing Games, earning qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics as the highest-placed African surfer.
