Sunspring
''Sunspring'' is a 2016 experimental science fiction short film entirely written by an artificial intelligence bot using neural networks. It was conceived by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Oscar Sharp and NYU AI researcher Ross Goodwin and produced by film production company, End Cue along with Allison Friedman and Andrew Swett. It stars Thomas Middleditch, Elisabeth Grey, and Humphrey Ker as three people, namely H, H2, and C, living in a future world and eventually connecting with each other through a love triangle. The script of the film was authored by a recurrent neural network called long short-term memory (LSTM) by an AI bot named Benjamin. Originally made for the Sci-Fi-London film festival's 48hr Challenge, it was released online by technology news website Ars Technica on 9 June 2016. Oscar Sharp
Oscar Sharp is a BAFTA-nominated British filmmaker best known for short films The Kármán Line, Sign Language and Sunspring, and upcoming television series The Human Conditions for HBO MAX. Work In 2010 Sign Language, about an idealistic human billboard in London's Oxford Street, won the Reed Short Film Competition and Virgin Media Shorts. His 2015 film The Kármán Line, starred Olivia Colman as a wife and mother who contracts an illness causing her to gradually levitate. It won Best Short at the British Independent Film Awards and was nominated for the Best British Short Film at the BAFTAs and was produced by Campbell Beaton. The film was subsequently released by The New Yorker and PBS. Sharp then signed with Tobey Maguire's company Material Pictures to develop his first feature film and was named a Star of Tomorrow by Screen International. ''1 the Road'' is an experimental novel composed by artificial intelligence (AI). Emulating Jack Kerouac's ''On the Road'', Ross Goodwin drove from New York to New Orleans in March 2017 with an AI in a laptop hooked up to various sensors, whose output the AI turned into words that were printed on rolls of receipt paper. The novel was published in 2018 by Jean Boîte Éditions. Goodwin left the text unedited. Although he felt the prose was "choppy", and contained typographical errors, he wanted to present the machine-generated text verbatim, for future study. The story begins: "It was nine seventeen in the morning, and the house was heavy". Thomas Steven Middleditch (born March 10, 1982) is a Canadian actor, comedian and screenwriter.
