''Sunshine Dad'' is a 1916 American silent comedy film produced by Fine Arts Film Company and distributed by Triangle Film Corporation. It was directed by Edward Dillon, written by Tod Browning and 'Chet' Withey and starred stage comedian DeWolf Hopper. Hopper's year old son, William Hopper, appears in the film as a baby. Edward Dillon (actor)
Edward Dillon ( or 1879 – July 11, 1933) was an American actor, director and screenwriter of the silent era. He performed in more than 320 films between 1905 and 1932 and also directed 134 productions between 1913 and 1926. He was a native of New York City. Dillon's work on Broadway included acting in ''Prince Otto'' (1900), ''Francesca da Rimini'' (1901), ''The Taming of the Shrew'' (1905), and ''The Ranger'' (1907). He left the stage to begin acting in films in 1908, working under D. W. Griffith at Biograph. He was Mary Pickford's first leading man, and he was instrumental in Fay Tincher's developing into a star. Dillon died on July 11, 1933, at the age of 60 in Hollywood, California from a heart attack. His brother John T. Dillon was also an actor. Max Davidson (May 23, 1875 – September 4, 1950) was a German-American film actor known for his comedic Jewish persona during the silent film era. With a career spanning over thirty years, Davidson appeared in over 180 films. Career Born in Berlin to Jewish parents, Davidson emigrated to the United States in the 1890s where he began working in stock theater and vaudeville. He entered silent movies in 1912. He made a series of films featuring the character Izzy for Reliance Pictures Company in 1914. Jewel Carmen (born Florence Lavina Quick; July 13, 1897 – March 4, 1984) was an American silent film actress who appeared in over thirty films, primarily in the late 1910s. In addition to her film career, she was involved in several scandals. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Carmen began acting in Hollywood at age 15, eventually performing with Keystone Studios. She first garnered public attention for her involvement in a statutory rape case against a 35-year-old automobile dealer in Los Angeles, but the charges against him were ultimately dropped after she could not prove her age. Carmen resumed her career, appearing in several films throughout the 1910s, including a small role in D. W. Eugene William Pallette (July 8, 1889 – September 3, 1954) was an American actor who worked in both the silent and sound eras, performing in more than 240 productions between 1913 and 1946. After an early career as a slender leading man, Pallette became a stout character actor. Fay Tincher (April 17, 1884 – October 11, 1983) was an American comic actress in motion pictures of the silent film era. Early years Tincher was born in Topeka, Kansas, and was the daughter of George Tincher and Elizabeth Tincher. She had three sisters, Mary, Ruth, and Julia. Her father was mayor of Topeka and the state printer. As a child, she studied dance, elocution, and music. When she was a teenager, she attended a dramatic school in Chicago and performed in light opera there.
