The soundtrack to the film ''Sunset Boulevard (film), Sunset Boulevard'' (1950) was composed by Franz Waxman. In 2005, Franz Waxman's score was named #16 of the top 25 film scores in the American Film Institute's AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores, "100 Years of Film Scores" list.AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores , AFI. Retrieved 19 November 2011. It was released on CD in 2002, an edition that was re-recorded by Joel McNeely and the Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Franz Waxman
Franz Waxman (né Wachsmann; December 24, 1906February 24, 1967) was a German-born composer and conductor of Jewish descent, known primarily for his work in the film music genre. His film scores include ''Bride of Frankenstein'', '' Rebecca'', ''Sunset Boulevard'', '' A Place in the Sun'', ''Stalag 17'', ''Rear Window'', '' Peyton Place'', '' The Nun's Story'', and ''Taras Bulba''. He received twelve Academy Award nominations, and won two Oscars in consecutive years (for ''Sunset Boulevard'' and ''A Place in the Sun''). He also received a Golden Globe Award for the former film. Bernard Herrmann said that the score for ''Taras Bulba'' was "the score of a lifetime." He also composed concert works, including the oratorio ''Joshua'' (1959), and ''The Song of Terezín'' (1964–65), a work for orchestra, chorus, and children's chorus based upon poetry written by children in the Theresienstadt concentration camp during World War II. Varèse Sarabande is an American record label, owned by Concord Music Group and distributed by Universal Music Group, which specializes in film scores and original cast recordings. Joel McNeely
Joel McNeely (born March 28, 1959) is an American composer, arranger, musician, lyricist, and record producer. A protégé of composer Jerry Goldsmith, he is best known for his film and television scores. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series for his work on ''The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles''. He frequently collaborates with Seth MacFarlane and contributes to various projects by The Walt Disney Company. Biography Joel McNeely was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Both of his parents were involved in music and theater, and as a child he played the piano, saxophone, bass, and flute. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, studied jazz at the University of Miami, and earned a master's degree as a composition major at the Eastman School of Music. Scottish Symphony Orchestra
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) is a Scottish broadcasting symphony orchestra based in Glasgow. One of five full-time orchestras maintained by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), it is the oldest full-time professional radio orchestra in Scotland. The orchestra is based at City Halls in Glasgow.
