Suns of Arqa are a world music collective founded in 1979 by Michael Wadada. Revenge Of The Mozabites
''Revenge of the Mozabites'' is the first studio album by the band Suns of Arqa, recorded in 1979 and released in 1980 by Rocksteady Records. The album was produced by Suns of Arqa founder Michael Wadada (credited on the sleeve as Michael Mafia), and his friend Adrian Sherwood (credited on the sleeve as Adran Ridims). The tracks on this album are completely eclectic with many different genres featured on the tracks. The styles include Dub, Irish, Indian, and a little flamenco. All tracks from this album were made available on CD in 1992 on the compilation Arqaology, released on Arka Sound. The full album was finally released on CD with its original cover art and track listing by Arka Sound in 2001, with a bonus track "Acid Tabla Remix" which was originally released on the single "GD Magick" in 1983. On-U Sound Records is an English record label known for releasing its own unique flavour of dub music since the 1980s. The label was founded by Adrian Sherwood in 1979/1980 and is home to acts such as Tackhead, Dub Syndicate, African Head Charge, Akabu, The London Underground, Little Annie, Creation Rebel, Mark Stewart, Gary Clail (who would have a number of Top 40 hits, like "Human Nature", credited to Gary Clail On-U Sound System), New Age Steppers, Audio Active, Asian Dub Foundation, and the dub collective Singers & Players. Glastonbury Festival
Glastonbury Festival (formally Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts and known colloquially as Glasto) is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, England. Martin Glover
Martin Glover (born 27 December 1960), better known by his stage name Youth, is a British record producer and musician, best known as a founding member and bassist of the rock band Killing Joke. He is also a member of the Fireman, along with Paul McCartney. Early career Martin Glover was born on 27 December 1960 in Slough, at that point part of Buckinghamshire, England. He attended Kingham Hill School, an independent private school in Oxfordshire, where he met Alex Paterson, who would become a roadie for Glover's band Killing Joke, and later founder of The Orb. Naming himself "Youth" after the roots reggae Rastafari chanter Big Youth, in 1977 he joined punk rock band the Rage, who toured with the Adverts. Muslimgauze
Muslimgauze was the main musical project of Bryn Jones (17 June 1961 – 14 January 1999), a British ethnic electronica and experimental musician who was influenced by conflicts and history in the Muslim world, often with an emphasis on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. With dozens of albums released under the Muslimgauze name, Jones was prolific, but he never achieved mainstream success. His music has been described by one critic as "among the most startling and unique in the noise underground." Zion Train
Zion Train are a British dub ensemble that formed in Oxford, 1988. They have consistently released music and toured from 1992 to present day. Their mix of reggae and dance music was a notable innovation in the early 1990s. History Co-founder Neil Perch is an autodidact, he taught himself music production and composition after completing a master's degree in biochemistry in the mid eighties. Initially formed in Oxford as a sound system in 1988 by Neil Perch and Ben Hamilton, Colin Cod and Dave Tench joined in 1990 upon relocation to London. John William Leckie (born 23 October 1949) is an English record producer and recording engineer. His production credits include Magazine's ''Real Life'' (1978), XTC's ''White Music'' (1978) and Dukes of Stratosphear's '' 25 O'Clock'' (1985), the Stone Roses' ''The Stone Roses'' (1989), the Verve's '' A Storm in Heaven'' (1993), Radiohead's '' The Bends'' (1995), Cast's ''All Change'' (1995), Muse's ''Origin of Symmetry'' (2001) and the Levellers' ''We the Collective'' (2018). Gerald Rydel Simpson (born 16 February 1967), better known as A Guy Called Gerald, is a British record producer and musician. He was an early member of the electronic group 808 State, contributing to their debut LP '' Newbuild'' (1988) and hit single " Pacific State" (1989). He also achieved solo success with his 1988 hit single " Voodoo Ray", which became a touchstone of Manchester's acid house scene and reached No. 12 in the UK charts. 808 State are an English electronic music group formed in 1987 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. They were formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson. They released their debut album, '' Newbuild'', in September 1988 and secured commercial success in 1989, when their song " Pacific State" was picked up by BBC Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies and charted for 11 weeks in the UK. Helen Watson (singer-songwriter)
Helen Watson is an English singer-songwriter. Her music encompasses blues, soul, jazz, pop and folk. Biography Born in Manchester, she began performing on the folk-club circuit during the late 1960s whilst working as a teacher in Manchester. During the 1970s and 1980s she was a singer with blues band Loose Lips and a member of the Manchester quartet Well Knit Frames, which also included Martin McGroarty (who would become her regular writing partner). Watson was also a backing singer with Carmel on an extensive world tour. She sang on several of Suns of Arqa's early LPs (''Musical Revue'', ''Wadada Magic'', ''India?'') which were released between 1983 and 1984. Band On The Wall
Band on the Wall is a live music venue in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, England. History Early history The building dates back to around 1862 when a local brewery, the McKenna Brothers, built it as the flagship pub of their operation. It was called the George and Dragon; the first licence on the site was granted to Elizabeth March in 1803. No-one knows when music started to be played at the venue but market pubs were well known for their musical connections, and the nearby Smithfield Markets and textile factories ensured that this was a bustling area with many musicians and buskers. Manchester was then at its height as the first industrial city at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution. The 'Band on the Wall' was a nickname from the 1930s when the landlord of the time Ernie Tyson placed a stage high on the far wall of the pub on which the musicians played.
